November 11, 2012 on the Disney Dream!!

Just got our cruise docs too; so excited that our cruise is just a few short weeks away!

May I ask, does anyone dress up for the Pirate night party?

Does anyone have any special packing tips or items they recommend that we make sure we bring???
!

We got our cruise docs today as well. Not too far away!!

Yes we all dress up!! It's our 5th cruise. Sometimes we make it up to the party and sometimes not. There are lots of people, but it's fun, so I do recommend it.

Sun tan lotion!! LOL
Do a search on the boards, there are lots of really great threads on what people bring, some bring everything including the sink and some go light. Tnk about your habits around your house and what you like to have. I could say bring a power strip, but if you don't have lots of powered stuff, then it doesn't matter too much. Our big things are medicines for colds, aches and pains, and other things you tend to keep around for just in case.

The boards are just packed with great tips and advice on anything imaginable related to cruising DCL. Almost TOO much information to weed through.

We're in the "play it safe and pack it" camp. Selection of necessity items will be limited on the ship. Chances are they won't have "your" brand, and it will be significantly more expensive than in the store.

Case in point (this was 10 years ago on Royal Caribbean) - I underestimated the strength of the Bahamian sun and got burnt snorkeling. A bottle of sunburn gel (the blue stuff) was $20 on the ship. Maybe $5 or $6 at home.

Speaking of snorkeling - anyone pack their own snorkel gear to use on Castaway? I was thinking about it and was curious if anyone knew if this was allowed.

Agree on the tons of info, but fun to read and it helps as it brings up ideas that you might not of thought about, i.e. yours with the Gel/Aloe.

We are scuba divers and have our gear on lots of cruises, not this on, and my understanding is that to snorkel on castaway you have to wear the snorkel vest, so even if you have your gear you still have to rent their vest, which comes with the gear, so my perception here is that if you want to snorkel, just plan on renting on the island and not worry about lugging your own.

Thanks for the info. I know what vests you are talking about. Probably easier, as you said, just to rent their gear and call it a day.

I had a chance to take a diving class in college and get my cert, but whimped out when I found out that the cert. dive was early February in upstate PA. Always regret not doing it.

First Disney cruise for us, too. We have costumes for the boys for Pirate night. Timing is convenient ... use them for Halloween, and then a few weeks later on the cruise.

I've seen a lot of posts on other threads with folks commenting about things they would not do. "Too crowded, not worth it - will skip next time, etc." While seemingly good intentioned, many of these folks have cruised 5, 10 times or more on Disney. At that point, I can see maybe skipping certain things. Probably not the best advice for first timers.

We are going to try and keep our activity in moderation, and not attempt to "do everything." It is impossible on a four night cruise, anyway.

I think the night of the pirate party is when they have the fireworks at sea (to my knowledge Disney is the only cruise ship that has fireworks)If I am wrong let me know.

We are so excited to be going on our first Dis Cruise on the Dream, Nov. 11th. I've been reading up about the Fish Extenders - Love the idea! How would we get to be a part of this exciting event? We are Staying in Cabin # 8156 - Susan (38) Jeff (39) Owen (5) and Jake (1) . Can someone advise how we get involved in the FE group? Sounds exciting!!! Thanks!

Welcome aboard! First time cruisers here, too.

@don604 will add your info. to the roll call on the 1st page

To be added to the Fish Extender group, send your info via email to Donna Hill donnah@advthrulearn.com. Include cabin number, DISboards name, name/age/gender of each person and any special occasion you are celebrating.

so even if you have your gear you still have to rent their vest, which comes with the gear

Found out on another thread that you can request a vest for FREE, if you bring your own snorkel gear. So there's a few bucks saved not having to rent gear. Plus, we are familiar with using our own stuff.

By the way, a big shout-out and thank you to @don604 for maintaining the roll call on this thread. And to @donnahill74 for organizing our FE group.

Woot! :thanks:

Thank you for the quick reply; all the info is great!

We are bringing our own snorkeling gear for this trip. My son has trouble fitting into most masks, so it is easier to bring his own. Hope this helps! :)

Got our stuff in the mail too!! :) SO Excited!! 18 days until we leave for FL. We don't dress up as Pirates, but we all have pirate themed clothing :)

We leave for Disneyworld in 1 week!!! :yay: The family is soooo excited :dance3:

The weather is just starting to change here in Florida. Gone is the summer heat and humidity. Highs in the low 80's right now.

You are exactly correct....47 right now. :-)

I have no idea how to reply to all on this DisBoard, so I apologize if this reply doesn't make it to everyone....

:-)
