Don't bother getting to the port before 10am I don't think they open the doors until then.
Usually boarding begins between 11:30 and 12 and is by group # (which you get as you enter the port)
FIrst time cruisers may want to get there eary since there is plenty to see and they usually have characters come out in the lobby Heck, the bathroom is even cute. (can you tell that we were so glad to be there that everything was wonderful!)
The only thing I would advise if you get on right away is plan on bringing as little as possible in your carry on.
Its not much fun dragging around suitcases and bags at the buffet or signing up for Palo/Spa stuff.
We have been taking the DCL transportation the last couple of times from our Disney resort. Even though we get there a little later, they take our bags right from our room and we can usually get into our stateroom shortly after getting on board.
