When I think of resort,golf and whale watching I think of St Andrews in New Brunswick. There is The Fairmont Algonquin which has a great newly redesigned golf course by the coast and lots of different whale watching tours.(one which is on an old sailboat that you can help operate)

I vote for Cape Breton. It's is absolutely beautiful and has everything you could wish for. The Cabot Trail is breathtaking a must see. You could stay in Baddeck (my home town) and do day trips from there, it's a very picturesque village and is home to Bell Bay Golf Course which is one of the best in Canada. There are lots of Whale Watching tours in Cheticamp. If you decide to go to CB, look at booking soon as the week you are talking about gets booked early.

I love Cape Breton too...We stayed in Baddeck for part of our honeymoon and were at the Silver Dart Lodge and ate at the Yellow Cello...It's so nice there.

We have our own cottage at Murray Corner, NB , which is about a twenty minute drive from Shediac. One of our favourite family activities in the summer is to go to the Neptune Drive-In movies. On some weekends they show family movies. It is always a double feature and starts at dusk. The charge is 7 dollars/person, children under 12 are free. They have a concessions stand but you can also bring your own snacks if you want. Our childern are DD-13, DD-11, and DS-9. The movies are usually current releases. This is one of the few remaining drive -ins in the Maritimes and it is in Shediac. I.M.H.O. a must see.

Try grand manan new brunswick, i use to live there and its a beautiful island. lots of beaches one small golf course many whale watching tours and lovely cottages on the beach. lots of small shops and boats. always tourists there!

Someone else mentioned St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. And they are right - it is beautiful! While I still vote for Cape Breton (my home and native land), my new home is in St. Stephen, NB, just a half an hour from St. Andrews. My husband and I love to retreat there. It's gorgeous. However, beware that it is an expensive place. The Algonquin is a gem but pricey.

I would like to throw in my vote for the south shore of Nova Scotia. There are some beautiful beaches as well as rugged coastline to explore. Lunenburg is a great little town, with some great restaurants and a wonderful museum, it is also a UNESCO world heritage site (one of only 14 in Canada). Lunenburg is also the birthplace of the Bluenose and Bluenose II.

If you go to Lunenburg, eat at the new Italian restaurant. My DH's friends own it. It's fabulous.

I agree the Italian restaurant in Lunenburg is excellent it is called Trattoria Della Nonna. www.nonnadining.ca

Another great spot is the Old Fish Factory, located upstairs in the Fisheries Museum. www.oldfishfactory.com

I'm a Cape Bretoner living in Halifax married to a man from the southshore of Nova Scotia. I would recommend picking up tourist guides for both provinces as there are beautiful spots in both provinces. My husband and I used to camp near Shediac and it is one of my favourite beaches. The Cabot Trail in Cape Breton is beautiful. You could visit Halifax and do some day trips to the south shore, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, etc. from there. There is a lovely beach called Rissers outside Bridgewater which has a campsite, cottages, etc. While in NB, there is also the water park in Moncton which is great for kids. So there is lots to pick from ....
