Nov.10-13....Veteran's Day?

We have these days reserved at RPH.This will be our first trip to Universal in 12 years.We are Canadian and just realized that Veterans' Day falls on the 11th.We had been hoping that our mid-week visit would see low crowds at the parks.....can anyone tell me how busy to expect it during these dates now with the holiday and all?

Shouldn't be too busy...but I'll find out for sure this year!! Most schools and workplaces do NOT get Veteran's Day (however Sarasota County does...yay for me since Veteran's Day is my birthday...LOL did anyone need to be reminded??? ). Also because it IS a Tuesday, most people who have the day off wouldn't go to a themepark because they are usually exhausted afterwards. Have a great time!!

Here in NY we get Vererans Day and Election Day off. I doubt it will make a huge difference but you should see increased attendance for sure.

maybe it's a NY thing? Most places down here don't get it off except maybe those who work for the government or the city, perhaps...I know my dad didn't get that day off of work (he's taking it off though).

Veterans Day is a federal holiday. Each individual state, cities and towns observes as they see fit however I think you will find more schools closed that day across the U.S than not. Not a NY thing but I'll take it!

Vetran's day is an observed holiday here in New Hampshire. Not only do my kids have that Tuesday off, they also have the Monday before off - so it's a four day weekend. I doubt it would make too much difference though? And, if you stay onsite, it doesn't really matter. We went late July and I assume that is one of the busiest times, but with FOTL, we never waited for anything.

Monday off too?!?! No fair!!! But I'm taking Monday off for my Universa trip anyway. Didn't realize so many people DO get it off...Florida schools didn't have the day off until after September 11 (but they started it in 2002 since 2001 was too soon before, of course, so they couldn't change it already).

Yes, they get Monday too - they call a teacher's workshop day, but being right in the middle of two days off - i seriously doubt it. The only problem with all these days off (they four days for columbus day too - another teacher day scheduled right in the middle of two scheduled days off ), is that they have to start school so early in the summer. Some of the schools around here start the third week in August and I think that is too soon. It is still hot and summer for four more weeks. I would like the kids to at least start after labor day - oh well.

Flyfly - what time do you get out of school? It is only 2:30 and my kids don't get out until 3:00 and won't be home until 3:20 at the earliest - you must get out early!

WOW!! Things are SOOO much different here!! I started school on August 11th already!! I still think it's too soon as well...but this year we get out on May 25...

Anyway, we don't get Columbus Day off here. And kids over there get a 4-day weekend!! No fair!!

I get out of school at 1:55PM. School starts at 7:25AM though and so I have to get up a little before 6AM (to catch the bus at 6:25AM). Fun fun...

Oh Dear!!

Well, I like the date you get out for the summer, but not the date you start back! We go to the second or third week of June here.

Also, my kids don't have to be to school until 8:30, which I LOVE, as we are not early risers. Very different indeed

Hi...Tigerlilly's Mom......your kids school hours are similar to ours - they start at 8.45 am and finished now at 3.15pm.

Hi fly fly......that is a very early start!!! Do you have an hours bus journey to do every day too? I'm not out of bed till 6.45 am at the earliest! I expect you don't have much time for breakfast - or do you have that at school?

Selina - I get up a little before 6AM and have to leave the house by 6:25AM (that's pushing it) to catch the bus. I am on the bus until 7:15AM and school starts at 7:25AM. No time for breakfast or anything. I barely have enough time to get ready...but I make sure I manage because I don't want to get up any earlier!!!

fly fly...Last one.......gotta go.....poor you! That must be so tiring. Wondering when you get to eat. I get up about 6.45 make cup of tea for me and juice for kids and take it back to bed, watch the morning news and about 7.20 get up and shower etc., down for breakfast by 8 then we leave the house just after 8.30 - take the kids to school then I get to the nursery for about 8.55 for 9.05 start. We always have breakfast - cereal and toast usually. As you can see, I take quite a long time to get my "act" together in the morning!!!

oh my!! lol! Well, I have to wait until 11:55 to get anything to eat!! you really notice when you go 3/4 of the day without any energy from sleep OR food!!!

All schools in our area recently have introduced in the break times (about 10.20 am) so about 1 1/2 hours after they start school, a "healthy snack" which the kids take in. It has to be one of 5 things - dried fruit, apple, banana, carrots, celery. Lots of food stores now stock dried fruit bars etc especially for this. They call it "brain food" and studying has proven that the children work much better by having one. They also have a large water bottle and have this on the table throughout the day too. Also providing plenty of fluids is essential too. They are supposed to just have water, but my son has a shot of apple juice in his! Then at 11.45am they break for an hour's lunch - finishing at 3.15pm.

I meant to ask you how the exam went today? Hope it went okay. What thread am I on here?!!! I'm sure it's not about this!!! sorry.....Mr or Ms threadstarter!
