Nov.1 2009 on the Wonder! it's never too early to chat!the

Seems like problems always pop up after the warranty is up doesn't it. My last vehicle was a ford explorer and we would randomly have problems with the drivers side window power windows not working. But it was random working one day and not the next. Then a wk after the warranty was up it stopped working all together. So frustrating! Glad you were at least able to get the price cut some. It's funny what they can do when they think your going to walk away.

Same here too, I just traded in my 2002 vehicle as the repairs were taking all of my $$$$$.

I'm glad you got them to drop the price. Now at least you know everything is fixed for the drive down.

The worst part was we took it in 3 times while under warranty to get it fixed. Of course every time we took it in it would start working. They would still take it back and then bring it out saying they replaced this or that and that it shouldn't do it anymore. A wk later it would be doing the same thing. They probably didn't even do anything to it and I couldn't tell since it was working at that particular second.

We will be on our first cruise just by ourselves- just the two of us- cant wait
Welcome bigdad5899! This is going to be our first cruise and it will just be the two of us also.:cool1: This will be our first vacation ever without kids:banana:, with exception to a two day getaway at a Bed & Breakfast we went to for our Anniversary a few years back. We are so looking forward to this trip:woohoo:.

My kids started back to school today!!!! The countdown is now going to go faster I think! I will notify the elementary teacher, of our upcoming trip, next week (although I'm sure DS6 will mention it before then), and my older kids can take in notes themselves to the middle and High School teachers.
I wonder how DS6 is doing at school, because he was not impressed about going today.
For everyone else here who has kids, have your children started yet? How did it go for them, and YOU?

My son started back Aug 19th and my two girls started back Aug 24th. My youngest daughter started Middle School(5th grade)this year and is loving it:banana:. My older daughter started Jr. High(7th grade) this year and likes it but isn't as excited as my younger one:cool1:. My son is in his senior year of High School and is just glad this is his last year. He is also glad that he only has to go to school from 6:44am-11:44am:worship:. My kids aren't going to have the pleasure of getting out of school to go on the cruise in Nov. seeing how my husband and I are going by ourselves to celebrate our 15 wedding anniversary. However, we are taking the kids to Disney in Jan to celebrate my sons 18th B-Day and my older daughters 13th/Golden B-Day. We are not going to tell them about the trip until a couple of days before we leave so that it will be a nice surprise. I did get my son to commit to riding It's a Small World 18 times if we go for his B-Day though:rotfl2:. That ride annoys him, then again what 17 year old boy does like that ride. I hope your DS6 had a good day at school. I hope your other kids had a good day as well.

Mine started last Tuesday. I stopped in and picked up a trip slip to fill out last week but I still have to turn it in. Julianna is in first and loves it. Ashley is in the 11th grade and she came home with a project to complete the second day. Those teachers don't waste any time.

I'm one of those teachers! Although I didn't give projects on the second day, they had homework on the 3rd day of school! :o) Gotta get them back in the mood! :goodvibes

On a side note, the wedding is in exactly two months, and that means we set sail in two months and one day! Yahoo!

Well, when I picked up DS6 after school, the first words out of his mouth were "Well, it was Actually kind of fun today"! He was quite animated which is so different from what he was like this morning. His brand new jeans had grass stains all over the knees LOL, true boy! My 12 year old DS started Gr. 7 today. It's interesting how different the U.S. and Canadian terms are for grades. Gr. 7 and 8 here is termed "middle School", and yours in the U.S is termed "Jr. High". DS12 likes the Junior High term better, he says it sounds more mature! My oldes two are both in Gr. 12 this year. DD18 came home saying she has two tests to write tomorrow, but the teacher didn't give them anything to study from. I'm certain, this is just a test to see where they are all at after having a two month break over summer. DS12 I think was looking forward the most, to going back to school, and now after the first day, he is "over the moon". So all in all, I think things went very well.
Now I have to try and get DS6 a seat on the school bus (darn school policy).
Through some pixie dust this way and lets see some magic happen!

I'm glad to hear that your kids had a good first day back to school. On my kids first day back they came home after school and told me that I had homework. They then proceeded to hand me paper after paper that I had to fill out and sign:eek:. Why doesn't your son get a seat on the bus automatically? As long as you live a certain distance away from the school that your child goes to your child automatically gets bus service here. I thought is was like that everywhere. I think they just like making it hard on the parents sometimes:headache:.

Hi,

My kids go back this Thursday!!!! I'm happy to get them back into the routine and they will be happy to see all of their friends. We have Middle school here grades 6 thru 8 and 9 thru 13 is High School. I'll wait til the week before we go away to tell the teachers, hopefully they wont be too hard on the boys.

Wow, 2 months from tomorrow we cruise on the Wonder!!! Time is really going fast now.

We have the same policy here regarding distance. Here, if you live close to the school, only JK and SK students get automatic busing. We live a 10 minute walk from the school, (longer in winter time) My son is in grade 1 and IMHO, cannot walk to and from school by himself, well he could, but safely? I'm sure you all know what I mean. But we can apply for an empty seat for him. I would have no problem walking him to and from if I didn't run a home daycare. I have kids arriving in exactly the time frame that we'd have to leave the house, and before I'm back from the school. After school, in order to get him, I have to wake 3 little ones up early from thier naps in order to get him, (again, earlier in winter, as then I have snowsuits to get on all of them, and trudge through snow). The bus believe it or not, actually stops AT my house for pick up in the mornings and drop off's after school FOR KIDS THAT AREN'T AT MY HOUSE! They all have to walk to my driveway with their parents. LOL. But I can't just put him on the bus, I have to apply and what stinks is that the Transportation Authority for our board, says they won't review those applications till the end of November! I asked them why, and was told that they have to wait till all info has been handed over from the schools as to what students are on what buses and how many empty seats they have. I told the lady I spoke with that I thought it ridiculous that it would take that long to get that info. As far as I'm concerned, that info is available by the end of September if not earlier. So I'll walk that form over to the school tomorrow and see if the school can help me out at all. At least the weather is great right now and I don't have my youngest daycare charge till Wednesday.
I too filled out and signed papers today. Have to send in student activity fees. $30.00 for my Gr. 1 guy and a family rate of $55.00 total for my older 3 all at the same school. Anyone else have these fees? We don't pay for field trips ect throughout the rest of the year, these fees go towards that and covers the cost of the kids "student Agendas". Next week they'll all be coming home with requests for money for school photos (which are scheduled for late mid September) and Year books which times 3, gets REALLY expensive! (Gee I knew there was something about me not liking "back to school" LOL)

I agree that a kid that age is not old enough to walk alone I wouldn't even let my 1st grader walk to the bus stop alone and that's at the end of my street. I hope you get your seat and sooner than November. Just dragging my little ones to the corner to get Jules off to school is a pain and will be much worse come winter. I had paperwork to fill out too but not as much as previous years since now our school prints out your emergency cards from the prior year and asks you just to make corrections and return it. So much nicer. The high school teachers however each send a letter home about what they expect and student rules and i have to sign all of them. She has 8 or 9 teachers so I wrote my name quite a few times. We don't have student fees thank goodness. Our kids get field trip and agenda money from the PTA fundraisers. They don't go on nearly as many field trips as we did in school though. Jules will have two this year an apple/pumpkin farm and a dinner theater. I can't remember the last time Ashley went on a field trip though I think it might have been in 8th grade as their graduation trip. Our schools here go k-4th in elementary, 5th and 6th are in one middle school, 7th and 8th in the other middle school, and 9th-12th the high school. I've never heard the middle school called jr. high I guess it depends on where you live. I know my nephew would probably like the jr. high title better too.

That is ridiculous. You should not have to wait that long to find out if there is a seat for your son on the bus. I think that they should already know if there is a seat by the end of the first week of school. Can't the bus driver see how many seats are available after that first week? To have the bus stop at your driveway and not be able to send your son on the bus is not right. Don't they realize that you can not let a first grader walk to school on there own. What if you worked outside of the home and weren't home to take him or pick him up. Sometime I believe the schools don't know what they are doing and it is maddening. As for the fees I feel like they are constantly sending home notes needing money for one thing or another. I wish they would just ask for a certain amount at the beginning of the year so we at least know how much money we need to put aside. Good luck getting your son a seat on the bus. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
Just think in a couple months we get to get away from it all and just have fun:yay:

Wow, that is ridiculous!!! I hope you're able to get your son on the bus!!! Do you have to walk him back and forth with the daycare kids until they decide in November?

We don't have those fees but, they're always sending home some kind of note requesting money for something. We pay for the trips unless they have a fundraiser which means you end up selling a bunch of stuff from Catalogs to raise money. It's really just easier and cheaper to pay for the trip. they have 1 trip per grade and they''re usually not until June so, we have some time. Last year my younger son, DS9 went to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty in NYC for his trip. It was $20 for the day.

2 months from Today, we'll be on the Wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, yes, TWO months from TODAY!!!! I sent a box of tissues to school with my son yesterday and a bottle of Purell, with a note that I was donating these to classroom, as I wanted to do what I can to help keep kids healthy this fall and winter season. Based on what other Disers have said with regards to school policies about Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizer, I also said in the note that if it was their policy to NOT allow this type of Sanitizer, then send it home with him, and I'll get to the pharmacy to buy a bottle of Non-alcoholic based sanitizer. Well, it did come home with him, so today I'll go fetch the other. I think it's important to have this.
Anyways, I talked with the bus driver who also thinks it's ridiculous to have to wait till November. He said he does have lots of empty seats on his bus since he's only picking up and dropping off mostly Kindergarten children (but the stop both ways is actually my house). He said he will take my little guy, but I don't want to get this Wonderful bus driver in trouble (he's the same driver my son had for the past two years). So I filled out the empty seat form and took it to our school office this morning. The receptionist there thinks it should only take a couple of weeks. The bus company is separate from the schools and have their own rules, but hopefully the bus driver and School can pull some strings. In the meantime, the other good news is that a friends Gr. 5 DD has offered to walk my DS to school in the morning and my DS12 is able to make it over to that school from his school in time to walk him home. This will work perfect for now, I don't want it be permanent because I'd still be stuck If one of them were sick and can't go to school on those days, and likely they will be joining after school after curricular activities through their schools, and I want them to be free to do that.
I think my little guy will get a seat long before November, at least thinking that way keeps me sane! LOL. I must get busy with these kids here now, they are finishing their free play time.
And again, WOW, only two months from today we'll be on that Ship!!

The bus driver sounds like a very nice guy and it is so nice that the older kids are willing to walk your little one to and from school. Good luck with everything I am sure it will all work out.
Yeah, only 2 more months:yay:

I just booked and paid for this cruise last night for my 7 year old DD and me. Can we join you here? :) We have been on one cruise before (Carnival), but this will be our first Disney cruise; we are so excited! We would also love to participate in the FE exchange. My daughter would love to meet some kids around her age; I know she will be all about the kids' club!

Welcome Kika! I'm 100% Positive you and your daughter will have a BLAST!
I will add you both to our FE Exchange. Do you have any pre or post cruise plans? Some of us are doing Disney World before. I personally am looking forward to a relaxing cruise after a whirlwind WDW visit.
