What are the noticable differences between the Moderate resports and Deluxe resorts for those that have experienced both?

One thing is that all the doors to rooms are enclosed. They do not open to the outside.I would also say the bathrooms. On allearsnet.com has many pictures that will also show the difference. I also think the themes are a big thing but many may not agree with that.

The moderates do not have indoor entry ways. The room size is a little smaller. I am sure someone will post with that info. They do not have valet service. They dont cost as much ;) I know ..you know that;) No corceirge service. Coronado springs is a moderate with some deluxe touches to it. It has a gym, spa, and beauty salon. The other mods do not. It also has central air in the rooms, not the under the window airconditioner. I believe the deluxes do not have a counter service restaurant. Thats all I can think of for now...

The moderates have doors that open to the outdoors and the deluxes are hotels, with doors opening from corridors, Most deluxe rooms have balconies or patios where with moderated there is a sidewalk in front of your door and no balconies. The deluxe rooms are bigger and the lobbies are more lush. Deluxes have exercise rooms while I believe CSP is the only moderate with an exercise room because it is also a convention center. I love both moderates and deluxes though!

Unless you pay extra for a king sized bed room, you will be in two double beds at all the moderates. I don't know about you, but a double bed is just about unbearable for us.

All the deluxe resorts have queen beds.

The other major difference is usually location. All the Deluxes are within walking or monorail distance of a park, with the exception of Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Wilderness Lodge has a boat to the Magic Kingdom that is a debated topic here (because sometimes it's so slow it totally stinks as a way to get around), but it's also cheaper than the other Deluxes.

Animal Kingdom Lodge has its live African animal savannah and over the top fabulous theming to make up for its bus-only access to the parks.

The big thing I miss at a moderate is the balcony. There is just something fantastic about going out to your private balcony to enjoy your morning cup of coffee.

Other things are the indoor hallways. A big plus when it's raining outside. The bus stops at the deluxes all have a covered path to them so there is no walking accross the parking lot outside to ride the bus.

I feel a difference in the atmosphere of the resorts as I move from value to moderate to deluxe. There's just something special about the deluxes over the moderates and the moderates over the values. Maybe I'm just imagining it but to me it's there. It's sort of like eating at McDonalds. Outback or Ruths Chris. All can be good depending on what you want to eat but you definitely notice a difference between them.

Mod rooms are 314 square feet.
Deluxes (including DVC studios) range from 360 to 400.

Deluxes also have fine dining restaurants, room service, concierge, health clubs, and, of course, location.

For us, the main difference and the deal breaker is that moderates do not have any queen size beds. DH and I just can't adjust to a double bed after sleeping in a king size bed! Maybe if we were still newlyweds but those days are long gone!;) I figured we would try the mods when DH and I go on trip by ourselves and request a king size room but we have since joined DVC and stay there on our child free trips.

Moderates have great food courts/CS that not all deluxes have.

The other responses summarize the differences well.

Most of the deluxes do have a counter service restaurant, it just isn't a huge food court like Pop. The Mara at AKL and Captain Cooks' at the Poly are really nice Counter service restaurants. Even GF has a CS and arcade. The size of the beds and rooms is the most noticeable. Also most deluxes are very close to at least one park which makes transportation a little easier.

Oh yea, after reading your message I did realize the walkways to the busses were covered and that did come in handy the last time :umbrella: I guess I was immersed in the magic pixiedust: and didn't notice.
