My long anticipated never-ending weekend has graciously come to an end. As I poorly illuminated, in a really sad attempt at poetry (sorry Toon), DW and I held our annual birthday sleep-over party for DD, just turning 11. And yes the house is not air-conditioned. (At least not yet, but thats another post.)
Needless to say it was a smashing (figuratively) success. Lots of fun for all and, save for one bloody elbow and a chunk of ice stuck to the tongue of one guest

, no serious accidents.
A bit of background we love throwing parties and were particulary good at kids parties. Since DD is a summer baby her parties have habitually taken on a Summer Olympics theme. We jam pack her affairs with a wide assortment of events, both individual and team based, with an assortment of prizes and ceremonies for the winners and losers.
I must say, since joining
DVC our parties have gotten better. The CMs games are a great inspiration for our events, especially the pool games at HHI.
We stage the obligatory relays in and out of the pool, scavenger hunts, food-related events, games of skill, and more. There are always word games and puzzles that elude to the next event and an ultimate winner-take-all finale. This year, as we were dousing the pool lights at 11 p.m., we discovered a wheelbarrow full of water balloons that were completely forgotten. So, back on with the lights and wham blam one massive screaming water balloon fight that Im sure awoke half the neighborhood.
I must admit, I always seem a bit over-stressed and under-prepared each year, but DW pulled off another memorable event. One of the girls, (who has managed to make the guests list every year

,) told her mother that this is her favorite party of the year.
To us, the ultimate reward is one very happy and grateful DD on Saturday morning, and we have yet to be disappointed.
Thanks again for the words of encouragement last Friday, especially lllovells. Today we begin to plan how to make next years even better!
P.S. Is there a new word this week?
