I thought I'd get my thoughts all organised, but that's not happening, so here are some random notes from our trip with a link to some pics.
We realized, after we got home, we hadn't taken one single shot of the beach this trip! Must have been having too much fun playing in the waves, building in the sand, walking along the beach. DH found a live sand dollar on Friday. Really neat! Of course, since it was alive, we had to put it back, but it was cool to see it for a minute.
We hit the front desk at 3:15 on Sunday and room wasn't ready. We'd packed all of our non-perishables and some frozen foods, but needed to make a run to Piggly Wiggly for milk, etc. so figured we'd do this while waiting for our room. Front desk called DH's cell to say room was ready before we even got out of the parking lot at 3:34.
Room was clean except for one stain on carpet near dining table, possibly coffee or a soft drink.
Housekeeping manager requested to come into our room on Wed. as we were going back to room. She was checking the blinds on the doors in master bedrooms to see which ones needed replaced.
On Monday, they were checking for room key cards at the beach house. Maybe they have a problem with pool crashers coming up from the beach?
We bought the refillable mug for DS11 for $11.95. On the resort TV channel, it says $8.95, so that's not up to date. apparently. It was a good deal for him and a nice souvenier. Dated 2004 and they said it can be used for the entire year.
Rented a bike for DS for the week for $26.25. He loves riding around the resort. He had a disposable camera with him, so we'll probably have umpteen pics of marsh bunnies when we get it developed.
DS bought a postcard and got it ready to mail to Grandma. Took it to the front desk and they ran it through their postage machine and mailed it for him for, I think he said, 25 cents.
We were scheduled for Trash and Towel on Wed, but never got it. I think there was some confusion because we'd had to change our ressie to a week later than planned, so our original check-out date was Wed and the rest of the week was a linked ressie. Not a problem for us as they supply plenty of trash bags, etc. for the week and we wash the towels as needed anyway.
As usual, love having the washer/dryer. It means I can pack less clothes and just toss a load in as we need them.
DH may not be packing his own clothes any time soon. He forgot his swim trunks and sneakers. Luckily, there is a Walmart fairly close.
Loved the two naturalist programs we attended... sharks teeth (DS made a shark tooth and bead necklace after this for $5) and sea turtles. We found out Christopher is from the next town over from us... grew up about two miles from us.
Loved the cookies and lemonade in the lodge in the afternoon.
Has anyone else noticed that the water appeared to have sort of a rusty color to it? We'd never noticed this here before, but I was glad I brought some Shout color catchers to toss into our laundry this time. We especially noticed it when we filled up the jacuzzi tub. It was discolored coming out of the faucet.
I was able to purchase the two member pins that are available at the Mercantile. Wasn't sure if they were offered here, so I asked and they have them in a drawer behind the counter.
We really enjoyed the Behind the Ears tour with Chef Gordon on Wed. Lots of interesting facts about the resort.
We had a two bedroom for just the three of us because the couple we'd invited to join us had to cancel at the last minute. Their DD was having pregnancy complications and they feared she'd deliver while they were gone. She did... healthy baby boy, 6 pounds 1 ounce on Wed of the trip, about 4 weeks early.
Loved all the programs by B'lou Crabbe. After the Music and Lore of the Lowcountry, when he saw that DS was 'into' music, he showed him how to change his breath to get different octives on the penny whistle, etc.
The CM's here are all so friendly and helpful! We love the relaxing vacation here. Really feel like we've had a break when we get back home.
I'd be glad to answer any questions if I can.
