that is guaranteed to be upsetting, as in NIGHTMARE upsetting. There is a VERY upsetting new-story about Ted Williams that sports-fans, especially Red Sox fans, might be aware of. I was following links about Kandi Buruss' former fiance's death (another sad story, such a tragedy for his surviving family-members) and came upon a NY Daily News story, about Ted Williams and this Alcor cryogenics "lab". That's all I'm saying about it here.

What was I thinking...

This is truly one of the most awful things I have read recently. I thought that there was no new evil under the sun but this is some of the worst depravity.

I love to watch true crime stories. DH, not as much....Although he is on a quest to find a way to "beat" luminol. He thinks the stuff that gets rid of cat pee smell ought to do it.

I especially like Dominick Dunne. Sometimes I watch the 48 Hours Mystery version. It's amazing how many take place in Texas. I don't know if it's because we have a large population, we just tend to kill more, or whether we're simply a colorful bunch......But those crime shows focus a lot on Texas. We were watching Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege and Justice the other night and when he started describing the murder, I said, "Hey, I remember that one! She was my aunt's friend." DH sort of shook his head, as this is not the first time I've chimed in with, "Hey....I know them...." or "I remember that case. Here's the back story on it."

He grew up in suburban, squeaky clean Texas and seemed oblivious to all the drama, plus his family did not seem to run with a "colorful" crowd. I grew up in small town East Texas, where my family had been for generations, everyone knew everything, and if you went to the beauty shop you knew the straight story before the sheriff did. It wasn't until I moved away to college that I realized not everybody got the back story, etc. the way we did. How they ever got a jury panel that wasn't already in the know is beyond me.

What never ceases to amaze me is some of the petty crap people will murder over. Sheesh....If I was going to risk life in prison or the dealth penalty, it would be over something BIG.

Poor you. I totally know what you mean. It doesn't happen so much here but back when I lived in NY I would always find myself scarred for weeks over some horrible story I would end up hearing on the radio. Try to keep thinking happy thoughts and put it out of your mind.

I can't "go there." It is just too upsetting to seek out crime stories. I stick to the ones in my local papers.

Please know...I am NOT disagreeing with you that those are sick people, story is awful, etc. But for some reason, something done after someone is *dead* doesn't bother me. I mean, it cannot compare to the Elizabeth Smart Case, or the Jamie Dugard (might be spelling it wrong) case, or things where people are tortured when they are alive!

Like I said, I don't want to diminish your disgust with this...it IS disgusting. But there are far worse things going on.

I have to agree. I'm sorry it upset the OP but most people who deal with the recently departed treat them more like sides of beef then people. I bet it's easier for them that way. For the same reasons that homicide cops will make inappropriate jokes etc.

Now if they had sexually molested his body that would be something to get upset about. But that people who have very little training listened to his brain freezing and had to knock the tuna can they propped his head up with off with a wrench. Yes a lack of respect for the departed but not what I would call disgusting or a nightmare. Roman Polanski is what nightmares are made of, these cryogenics people are just goofs not monsters.

It's a shame though. I grew up reading science fiction and always thought by the time I kicked off they would have the cryo thing working. Sounds like those losers couldn't get my lawnmower working .

If i remember the theory of cryogenics correctly, and its been a long while, it goes that someday science and technology will be so advanced that we will be able to bring ppl back IYKWIM. So his head is being preserved in anticipation of that event.

My question is and always has been, exactly what are they going to attach his head TO should it actually happen?

Yes, there are living people who are suffering, yes there are incidents in this world that are truly horrific in their scope, yes the Dugard case and Roman Polanski case and Elizabeth Smart cases are awful in that living human beings suffered trauma... *but* for whatever reason, the alleged activity of batting around a man's frozen decaptitated head when that man's actual last wish was to have his remains cremated, then have the ashes scattered at sea or near his favorite fishing spot...

That his wishes were disregarded, that his remains are allegedly being treated with such disrespect?...

that bothers me.

IMO ppl who take batting practice w/the dead have absolutely no compunction at all about respecting the living. And i think cryogenics in general is disrespect of the dead. But since ,as far as i know, Ted is the only 1 who didn't actually want to be there(gotta love that son of his) there's really nothing to be done about it. By and large the vast majority of ppl being stored paid for it ahead of time. Why? I have no idea

Hadn't heard that he died. I am remembering correctly that it was the son who wanted him frozen though right? I remember a whole court battle in there somewhere.
Of course if I were the daughter then once I was in charge of the estate then dad would have gotten his final wish and been cremated properly. But that's just me.
