notary question

Your bank should do it free of charge.

There are notaries in other places but they can charge small fees.

We had our will notarized at Bank One-have an account there-pretty simple.

Make sure you take your driver's license.

you can also go to you local town hall. We had our town clerk do the notorizing and was not charged.

If you are in Cascade, MI then you may be able to go to the township offices. A lot of local governments have changed their policies on notarizing documents. You can't go to the County Clerk's office becuase the only notarize documents related to county business.

Just an FYI. If you are in a different Cascade then none of this matters.:D

:D As a matter of fact I AM in Cascade, Michigan!:D

Nice to run in to you, "neighbor"!:bounce:

And they're very nice at the township office so I might try there. But since I have to get the certified check anyway, it might be just as easy to go to the bank. I'll give them both a call and see if either or both will do it and if there are any fees.

Thanks so much, everyone! As I said, I had NO IDEA where to do this.

I figured you were from MI.

I grew up in Grand Rapids, brother lives in Cascade and I love the Cascade Roadhouse.

Good luck.:D

I got really lucky in that the receptionist at my office is a notary, so I just had my wife come to my work one day and had the papers notarized.

Doesn't get much easier than that.

Mike

a notary is not allowed to charge you a fee. My wife has a notary and that was staed in her information packet when she was approved. Could be different in other places I guess.

I paid $6 to use the notary at Mail Boxes Etc. for my recent BCV purchase. Yesterday I got a letter from AAA with reminders of all of the services they offer which includes "Free Notary Public services at all AAA Texas local offices". There may be something similar in other states. I think that's where I'll head when I get that add-on that's been calling my name.:)

Also, don't forget that both parties (if applicable) must be present and sign the documents in front of the notary. I am a notary, and have angered many a husband or wife who brought me documents that they had their better half sign at home, and I had to tell them to bring the other party back in(I work at a Credit Union). That's the whole purpose of having it notarized: the notary physically watches both parties sign the documents. A notary who doesn't witness a signature is opening themselves up for trouble if they notarize something that wasn't signed in their prescence. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't get anything notarized for my purchase. I did for the resale but not when I bought direct from Disney. What is everyone getting notarized?

denecarter,
Yesterday I got a letter from AAA with reminders of all of the services they offer which includes "Free Notary Public services at all AAA Texas local offices".

That is what our AAA office advertised and we made a special trip to the AAA office to get our DVC paper notorized. When we got there, they said it was free only for stuff related to AAA.... But, the notary was really nice--she said they started charging a fee for other than AAA because folks were bringing lots of papers in at one time to be notarized and it was taking a lot of time. When she discovered we just had one (or was it two?) papers that needed to be notarized, she did it for us for free. Ironically, we later found out that our next door neighbor was a Notary Public (:) ).... (Now we know for any add ons!)

-DC :)

Notaries here can charge. I am a NYS Notary and have a notice with the rates on my desk. I do it at no charge for customers of ours. Walk ins are charged per the NY rates.

Thanks for the heads up... I dislike surprises when I'm trying to use a service. For instance, the notary at Mail Boxes Etc. closest to work was off and the directions to the second were somewhat incomplete. I spent an extra 30 minutes searching for them (besides the drive time across town). I must remember to call before I go somewhere.

I didn't get anything notarized either. There was a sheet that Disney already had notarized and there was nothing on the checklist about getting anything notarized.

Did I miss something?

I'm wondering the same thing, what are you getting notarized?

The only document that seems to require witnesses is the Deed, but the only instruction is for us to sign and return it.

The section that's devoted to witnesses and notaries is marked "FOR DVD USE ONLY."

Unless your state has a requirement that NY doesn't have, from what's in front of me, it just requires signatures on your end.

The mortgage agreement is what you have to have notarized.

If you paid in cash then you wouldn't have had anything to get notarized.

Also, maybe this is just a Michigan thing.

Hrmm... Not sure.. My DW and I are MI residents...

We just signed the paperwork for our VB add on last week, and had the Mortgage agreement notorized at a bank in our area. Unfortunately, we were members, and got hit with a $5 servicing fee.

We had intially gone to our city offices to have it done for free, but the one girl they had onstaff that can notorize for out of state documents was out for a two hour lunch break... We were in a hurry and didn't have time to go back later...

*sigh*

Oh well... $5 is a small price to pay for more time at the beach... :smooth:
