I think this is a bit different that the prior "glitches" (I still don't think this is a glitch) in that Disney has set aside a certain number of rooms at each resort that are eligible for the 40% off - when they are gone they are gone. Disney is not out any money by people using the code whether they had a PIN or not, whether they needed a PIN or not. If 10 rooms are set aside at the Poly for the 40% off and they are booked then they will not book any additional rooms at the special rate.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but in the past when reservations were reverted back to RAC it was due to a miscalculation of either taxes or not adding the room and ticket prices together correctly. In this case there is a set number of rooms being offered at the discount - when they are gone, they are gone. Disney knew when they put this promo out there how much they stood to "lose" if all rooms were booked with the promo - that's all part of the number crunching that goes on at corporate. It had to have made financial sense for them to do it or they would have never done the promo to begin with.
I know CM's are sometimes missinformed but I just find it so hard to believe that so many of us asked - flat out - if we needed a PIN with our code and were told no in error. I know I personally asked twice. Now, my name was checked in their system before I was told that I was eligible so maybe it was flagged at that point.
Just my two cents - we'll see what happens...no worries - either way I'm going to WDW!
