That's all I know. I know about all the fuss/confusion going on here yesterday and thought you might like to know. She is a confirmed Disney TA. When I know more I will let you know. As far as I know now my ressie is still at the discount rate.

I am guessing you are referring to the BW incident. I think that is very different as it was a computer glitch were all the person was charged was tax.

That is incorrect- Disney stated that what was purchased was the park tickets and not a room to go with it. But the tickets did not equal the price people paid and on the confirmation it stated a BW suite package.

Disney has wording in your paperwork that states the following:

"Disney reserves the right to decline, accept, or retain any Guest as a participant in its packages at any time. If a package is cancelled by Disney. Disney shall have no responsibility beyond the refund of all monies paid to Disney for the package."

Look on the back of your Walt Disney Travel Company WDW Resort Terms and Conditions. It is the second paragraph under terms and conditions. (The last paragraph on the second column).

Also, the third paragraph on the third colum. "Terms and conitions are subject to change by Disney without notice."

They can do it, and HAVE done it.

I'm still not sure if I had the pin in the system since the CM never said if I did or didn't but if they want to revoke my reservation and have me pay the full rate, then they will lose out on the $2800 I would have given them for my current reservation.

I wouldn't rebook and would take my money for a cruise.

I just emailed my TA and am trying to get more information. I will not voluntarily give up my discount/ressie but if they take it what can I do? I originally booked at rack rate for what I wanted and with the attitude that if I get a discount great if not oh well.

Well, if they cancel I will be disappointed as I am booked at Poly Concierge and will never be able to afford it without the discount. I will be upset, because I was told that no code was needed and that it is a public discount. I will still go, but I will be booking a moderate. I will save over 1,000 dollars NOT using the code because the moderate is obviously much cheaper than Poly C even with the discount.

That is correct, those terms are only listed on packages.

What is to prevent simple overbooking and turning guests away when everything is filled up? Or does this happen too?

Certainly if I casually book a room at the All Stars (a least cost resort), even with a discount, I should expect to stay on property.

If I book a room at this 40% discount, somewhere I will see a request for a PIN if a PIN was needed. If my travel agent never told me about the PIN but just said he got me "this terrific deal" I would expect him to refund the whole shebang he booked, airplane tickets and all, if he could not get me on the trip for the amount he quoted.

If Disney overbooks a given resort -- their usual tactic is to offer an upgrade to a better resort at the same rate.

Disney also has used the DIS board threads/replies as "ammunition" against certain people in correspondence with the State of Florida Dept. of Agriculture.
Yes, Disney obtained a "very loooong" thread and linked certain people to a certain deal/offer. They(Disney) also made some very inaccurate statements to the Dept. of Agriculture about these people and about how they(Disney) supposedly tried to handle it.

Just one more thing I forgot to add. I believe that if Disney was able to book a discount in your name, it is because you were entitled to it. Maybe your household was flagged for this promo. I just am having a hard time believing that Disney would mishandle discounts for over a week.

Some folks had their name(first) in their Dis thread response, also some stated what days they were booked for and some had their location (where they live) in their Dis info.-below their Dis name.

Some user names are very close to the person's actual name.

And with every user posting what dates they are going -- what resort they are calling - and frequently "I just got off the phone.." giving them a rough date and time of the call.. it wouldn't be hard to match up at least *some* users to their actual reservations.

I've been sort of following this topic. Because we're still trying to figure out when school starts for the 2007 - 08 year, when DH can take vacation, how much money are we looking at, etc., we haven't booked a room.

But if Disney should revoke the code, looking at the big picture, I don't feel that it would really hurt them financially if vactioners would then cancel their reservation and take their money elsewhere. Those previously reserved rooms will now be open for other vacationers at full rack rate, which people have and will pay.

I also don't feel it will be much of a PR nightmare. I have other friends and family who have visited WDW and they don't visit the Dis. They don't know about codes, value season, dining plan, touring tips ... they just call, make a reservation and go. Drives me nuts but that's a whole different post. My point being, their opinion of Disney would not be affected because they won't ever hear of the fiasco, again, if Disney revokes the discount.

I don't have any idea if they will or won't nor do I have an opinion as to if they should or shouldn't. I'm just looking at it from Disney's financial standpoint and they're in the business to make a profit.

I hope everybody that wants to visit is able to and I'm also hoping that we'll be able to squeeze in a trip this year.

Disney would cancel and not care about the PR. Have you ever read Disney's rating on the BBB? They have a poor rating & don't seem to care about it. It doesn't affect the number of people who will still travel to Disney. Think about how many of us would do business with a company that has such a low rating with the BBB and then think about if Disney's low rating would make a difference to you. Universal had a very positive rating.
