If you booked a King room, expect a King room. You could ask, but if King is all that is available, that means they have booked all their 2 queen rooms.
If you want 2 queens, you'd need to change to a resort with 2 queens available.
You have a better chance going K to QQ than going from QQ to K. Call and have them place the request on your reservation so the room assigner sees it. They usually do room assignments a week to ten days before check-in, so do it before then. It's worth a shot.
I always found it weird that the king prices are significantly higher than the same room with 2 queens, especially when half the max occupancy means half the wear and tear on room/resort.
After tax it’s $40 a night extra. Am I missing something?

My aunt worked in hospitality for 40 some odd years. She said there's a handful of factors that go into this but the two main reasons are that there are less rooms with king beds and you have more "space" in a room with one king compared to two queens, even if the rooms are the exact same size.
