Not thrilled with Disney's kids menus

Thanks -that is good to know. I have one who actually hates fries! I guess asking can not hurt if it is not on the menu.

I requested rice too often- my one loves rice(not potatoes in any form) and we never had problem with that either. The higher end restaurants are more than willing to "adjust" a child's menu as long as it's something they have on hand. Have fun!!

The options at Disney are not any worse than the options at our local Outback, Chili's, Macaroni Grill, etc, so I am not sure what the problem is. DS (5) will eat chicken fingers if they are white meat tenders, but that is generally the only child's entree he will touch. DH and I usually give him part of our entrees at Disney or elsewhere so he can get some fish, steak or pasta that he will actually eat and order extra appies and sides so everybody has enough food. Most TS places in Disney or anywhere else have sides of green beans, brocolli that you can purchase or that they will substitute in place of fries if the selections on the children's menu is not what you want.

My kids are 8 and 4 - they do not like salad or raw veggies. I was just hoping for some sides like corn, peas, or green beans (which they will eat). I will probably order something and let them eat off my plate for a side. THe buffets will be fine - lots of choices. I was just talking about places like Coral Reef, 50's PTC, California grill, etc. There seems to be some fruit choices but not many veggie choices.

I just looked at the child's menus for the three restaurants you've mentioned. All of them have menu choices which list "seasonal veggies". (2 to 3 choices at each) They may not be included with the entrees you want but I can't imagine they wouldn't substitute corn for fries with a burger if they serve the corn in the first place. Its not really reasonable to expect them to list burgers with veggies on the menu because its a much smaller percentage of the people who would want veggies instead of fries.

I think they will substitute for you and you will be fine.

BOTH my kids hate fries. I could live on them. What's up with that? I've never known a kid to hate fries and so now I do. LOL! Last week we went to McD and I almost left b/c they were out of apples. Thankfully I had some bananas in my bag so my kids ate that and I, uh...uh..uhh, ate their fries. :thumbsup2

Like others have said, the buffets and many TS restaurants have more variety and flexiblility. I think when a lot of people gripe about kids' meals, it's more towards CS meals where there is a limited menu and therefore less flexibility....Disney dining has always been great when it comes to accomodating needs and preferences within a TS setting!

My dd is a very picky eater. She "thinks" she likes fires when in reality she will only eat one or two. She loves carrots but sometimes the ones at WDW are too dried out for her taste. So I often try try to make a change to her meal.

I have never had a problem with asking for a subsitution (sp?) on a kids meal at WDW both on the DDP and off. It easier to know what kind of food in general the resturant serves. If I know that then I make my request based on something they have on hand. I have never been turned down.

The only TS you listed that I have pics of is Coral Reef, but I figured I'd post some pics just to give you an idea of some of the meals. The choices can be somewhat limited, that's for sure! But, I didn't have too much trouble finding fruits and veggies for the kids. DD doesn't like fries and DS10 (9 on the trip) isn't particularly crazy about them.

DD got the mac&cheese which did not come with any veggies
They each got the lobster bisque w/ their meal:

Also, I usually subbed a fruit cup for my dessert w/ CS meals because I find desserts w/ 2 meals a day to be too much. It was great having the extra fruit for everyone to munch on later.

HTH

I've also had no problem asking for substitutions. One thing I've found that the restaurants really do want the kids to eat and be happy - happy, full kids make for a better time at the park and a better time at the park for the kids mean the parents will stay longer. ;) it does Disney no good to have whining, crying, hungry kids.

I've requested some strange things, yet very normal kid things,
pb sandwich (no jelly)
white toast with cheese slapped between it
just a certain kind of veggie that wasn't shown on the menu
plain pasta
even once I asked if they had some crackers with pb and they did.

See we do burgers and green beans here - we always have some type of veggie. I guess the grapes are a pretty good option that I will probably opted for. Most of our meals will be TS so I hope they have that as a option there also!

We always try and have a side of veggies at dinner. We had a side of veggies at all of our TS meals. My DS does not like raw veggies. So, they were always steamed.
