Not the best news for fans of Cedar Point

That news is not necessarily new to Cedar Fair workers. I work at Worlds of Fun which is owned by Cedar Fair, and I know that there have been talks of a new company at our park for over a year now. So many amusement parks are struggling in this economy. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does we'll deal. This won't be the first time our park has changed hands.

Bummer. We really have enjoyed Cedar Fair parks. Busch being sold, now Cedar Fair...it makes us coaster junkies a bit nervous.

My son will be attending school out that way in August. We figured we'd probably be making more trips to Cedar Point than we normally do over the next several years. I don't imagine whoever is going to buy it is going to be paying that amount of money to shut it down, so it's likely there will be some positive changes to the park along with the buyout. Well, one can hope anyway.

The big worry on the blogs is that because of Cedar Points prime location, the very short season they have, and the economy in that area...they would take the rides from Cedar Point, move them to other parks with longer seasons, and turn the park over to a Real Estate developer.

Ironic thing is, the same thing happened decades ago........

I didn't even consider this. Where do you think they'd move them? Kings Dominion perhaps (been there and really don't think they have the capability of housing all the rides)? I see they own a few parks in California, or maybe you were thinking of the possibility of a newer park? They are the roller coaster capital of the World, and truly have some of the finest anywhere. I'd imagine in the Orlando area (if they could find the land), they could cash in on all the tourists that visit year round.

Let me say though, being at the top of Millennium Force while overlooking Lake Erie can't be replicated elsewhere. It really makes you feel so miniaturized and words just cannot explain that feeling. It would be so sad to see that happen.

I hope it doesn't go, but either way I hope the new owners put a little cash into the upkeep of the park. Last time I was there I hurt my back so no rides for me so it gave me more time to look around while waiting. The midway looks run down, and in need of some tlc. Believe it or not not everyone rides the rides! Good luck Sandusky.

Hoping for positive changes if a sale should occur. Northeast Ohio has lost Sea World and Geauga Lake. It would be a hard blow to lose Cedar Point too.

I've said this same exact thing to my hubby. It doesn't seem the same as when I was younger. I tell him Disney is what CP wants to be when it grows up. ;)

As for using the land, last I knew that was all swampy unusable land. I can't imagine being able to develop it.

If it does close, Sandusky will fold. Most of the economy seems to be built on people coming to ride the rides.

I thought they drained it and built. There are all kinds of homes and condos in that area. I doubt anything (if built) would compare to the homes on the back way in and would probably resemble more of the cookie cutter that are right behind Fridays.

I think the big draw in that area is CP, granted the lake is beautiful but if they take away the amusement park I think they will take away the appeal. There are still plenty of condos in Sandusky and Huron with dockage.

I could see taking apart some of the smaller ones with less draw but isn't CP the "crowning jewel" of Cedar Fair?

I'm not too worried about it. I don't think any rides will be taken out and moved around the country. The Magnum has supposedly been sold to amusement parks throughout the world from time to time but it is still there.

The news up there loves to come up with conspiracy theories all the time because it sells papers.

I'm not worried either, and agree most of this is probably speculation...

But you never know....

In 1957 a group of investors bought the park to turn it into a housing site....but they realized they could make more money turning it into the "Disneyland of the Midwest". Lets just hope the new owners keep it the way it is.
