So I was talking with Josh our eldest and asked him hypothetically if we were to go back to WDW in October 2014 would he be interested in coming with ........ and he said "no":eek:

He did mitigate the answer by explaining that hopefully he would have AS mocks a few weeks later and there is no way he could revise for 4 AS subjects whilst at Disney ...... who would have anticipated a sensible answer from a teenager :confused3:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Looks like he'll probably be able to go after all - the government plans to scrap January exams for AS/A2 qualifications, therefore it's unlikely that there will be mocks at that time of year when exams won't be until May/June.

Exams have been scrapped. It's unlikely he'd have mock exams just 8 weeks into a 30 week course. However, as a sixth form teacher, I would say that missing even a week of A levels is problematic - if you're thinking of holidaying over half term then no real issue, outside half term and missing 2 weeks of the course equates to 1/15th of the whole thing. It's a lot to catch up, and my experience is first year sixth form students can find missing just a small amount disconcerting, particularly in a new subject/at a new institution. if your son is thinking of moving schools/colleges or taking new subjects at A level he's making a sensible choice asking to stay behind. One of my students has stayed at home this year in her second year saying missing college for Florida last year caused her to fall behind - I'd agree with her!!

Sensible or not, that is one conversation and answer I don't want to think about having with my daughter

From the above posts however, it looks hopeful that he might change his mind ;)

Teenager ... not wanting to go with Mom and Dad ... with a perfectly believable and sensible excuse ... could that spell g.i.r.l.f.r.i.e.n.d. ? :)

As a former teacher, every once in a while, you do encounter a sensible teenager. It is rare and it can take you aback, but it does happen! :rotfl2:

Well my bad ....... if we go back in Oct 2014 he'll be just starting the 2nd year of his A2 course not his AS course :rotfl:

Unfortunately even though there wont be any formal exam board until May/June the school the boys go to currently do internal exams every 6 weeks in the 6th form. We wont find out if this changes with the government changes to the exam format until September this year when he starts the AS course :confused3

We're lucky my kids go to a faith school so they get 10 days off at the end Sept/ start Oct due to High Holidays. I'm one of those mothers who have never taken their kids out of school for holidays but thanks for the advice anyway :flower3:

I'm pleased to say that the girlfriend he's been with for the last 22 months he's just dumped ....... far too young to stick with a girl for too long in my opinion ;)

Had the very same conversation with DD about this March! She's 18 on 15th March and I wanted to book WDW over her birthday, but she insisted she could not take 2 weeks out as she's second year A levels now (doing the Uni visits right now, Sheffield today, London tomorrow, Northumbria in Feb!). So we booked for August instead and are doing a surprise DLP trip 14 - 17 March. I'm sure the 2 days she misses then can be caught up!

;)

I'm only 20 but still saying this is weird...

When I was a teenager and still now, when my parents say...do you want to come on holiday with us, my answer is always YES! :P

And now they can use me this year with CM discount to come out to me, I see this as doing them a favour as an excuse to come out to Florida;)

I'm hoping that one or both of my boys will be able to participate in th Disney collage program so that one day after paying for all their WDW holidays they will be able to pay me back with their CM discount ;)

My mum is using it as a great way to win my Dad around to taking everyone else!

I know they will come out, even just to see me! They're so proud! :P I often just think its for discount though...;)
