Not Sure Why I'm Sharing This... *Yet Another UPDATE Post #93*

I think your story is so heart-warming. That young man will be so incredibly fortunate if you and your DH are his family. I hope everything goes smoothly and turns out well. I think this young man must already feel that he is fortunate to have "met" you both. Please keep us updated.

If this boy turns out to be your husband's son, I think he is one very lucky person.

You and your DH sound like very loving, open minded and fair people. I hope that this turns out they way you'd like.

I totally agree! I'm super impressed by you guys and hope for the very best. Can't wait to hear the update!! :goodvibes

popcorn:: This is way better than any movie that could possibly come out this summer, so I'm grabbing my popcorn and watching for the results!!

Good luck on a match!!:cheer2:

I am loving following this story. Thank you for sharing it with us. You and your husband sound like a wonderful couple. Please update us with the results of the test and getting to meet your "new" son!

DH received his kit in the mail today. He did the pin-prick blood sample and has already dropped it back off at a FedEx location.

Unfortunately, we don't know whether Shawn has received his kit or not. We haven't heard from him in a couple of days. He hasn't been on Facebook and hasn't answered his cell phone. He said that he only turns his cell phone on when he needs to use it or knows someone is going to call him because it's the kind where he has to load minutes onto it. And we're not sure whether he has his own computer or uses a friends, so that may be why we haven't heard from him.

We're just hoping that he got the kit and will return his blood sample as soon as he can. Like I said in a previous post, if we get the results before next weekend, we're going to go up there and see him. :)

I'll post again if there is any news. :surfweb:

Wow, what a story. It sounds like you are all handling things very well. Sending many good thoughts your way that everything works out the way all of you want it to. Best of Luck.:goodvibes

:grouphug: I am hoping your family gets the outcome you wish for .

This is great - it's like The Locator on the DIS!! I hope it all works out well. I'm so nervous that he hasn't contacted you in a few days. Please keep us updated.

What an awesome story! I hope everything goes well for you and your family...my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hello everyone. Sorry I have not updated in a while, there wasn't a real lot to say. We didn't go to meet Shawn this weekend, as we had hoped to....

The last I posted, DH had sent his blood sample back to the lab, but we didn't know how quickly Shawn had sent his in.

Well, it turns out that the lab received DH's sample the next day (Friday, July 3rd). We knew that Shawn had received the kit on Thursday, and DH asked Shawn to please let him know via email, phone call, or whatever, once Shawn had mailed his sample in. When we didn't hear from Shawn by the evening of Saturday, July 4th, DH asked me to call Shawn just to "say Hi" and to find out when/whether he sent his sample in. DH didn't want to call again because he didn't want to come across as bugging Shawn about it, and he had sent him an email that morning, which at that point was unanswered.

I called Shawn and he told me that he didn't make it to the post office in time so he sent the sample back via UPS. The thing is, DH paid extra so that each kit would include a pre-paid OVERNIGHT FedEx envelope. We were quite perplexed as to why Shawn didn't just drop the envelope in a FedEx mail box. :confused3

Later that night, Shawn must've realized this because he sent DH an email saying "I'm sorry, I'm an idiot, I didn't realize what the FedEx envelope was for". Well that's fine, at least at that point we knew that the sample HAD been sent, so we figured we'd just wait.

DH waited...and waited... and each night he'd sign into the lab website to see if it had been updated with the news that they'd received Shawn's sample. That's how DH knew when they recieved his; his private log-in said so.

Nothing on the web site on Monday evening... Nothing Tuesday... Nothing Wednesday... Nothing Thursday. By Thursday night DH began to think that maybe UPS lost the envelope because according to the UPS web site, NONE of their mail should take more than a few days to reach its destination.

DH was beginning to think that he should just order a new test kit to be sent to Shawn's house. The lab said that they NEED to receive the blood samples within 10 days in order for them to be able to perform the test, and even though we didn't know which exact day Shawn took his blood sample, we knew time was running out.

Shawn called us Thursday evening to say Hi, which was great, so DH asked him if he had the tracking number for the UPS envelope. Shawn said that he had asked a friend of his to mail it for him, and that he'd try to get a tracking number from the friend.

Yikes...at that point we started to really wonder what the heck was going on.... :confused3 The thing is, Shawn had told us that he didn't have a car or a license, so we knew he was dependant on other people to get around... so we hoped that the friend was reliable.

Friday afternoon I had to rush DS21 to the hospital. He was put into icu (but was moved to a regular room last night). When we got home Friday evening we found that there was a phone message from the lab, and asked that we call them back before they could proceed with the test.

DH called them back and they said they were confused because both DH AND Shawn had checked off the "Alleged Father" box next to their names!! DH told the lab that HE was the "alleged father" and that Shawn was the alleged son. LOL Poor Shawn, I guess he was reading the form wrong, and checked the wrong box. He should've checked off the "Child" box. lol

Anyway....so basically the update is that at least the lab HAS received Shawn's sample! :thumbsup2 They will begin testing on Monday, and it can take 3-5 days to complete. So we should definitely have the results by the end of this week.

*WHEW!!!* :upsidedow

P.S. If you are so inclined, I could use some good thoughts for DS21 who is still in the hospital and will need some long-term care at this point. :( And also for me because I have to take DD18 to have her wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning and then care for her afterwards until she is feeling better. I'm feeling pretty stressed but I really need to hang in there, for all of our sakes. :sad1:

Thank you for the update. Here's some good thoughts for you. :)

Thanks for updating us all. I'm so sorry things are crazy for you right now and I'm very sorry to hear how sick your son is. I pray he makes a quick and speedy recovery. And my best wishes to DD as well. I'm sure Shawn is probably so nervous about the results. What if DH is not the dad, then what? I hope you will all remain in Shawn's life in one capacity or another, if the results are negative. That poor kid sounds like he really needs a stable support system. Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed he is, indeed DH's son.

Wow. What a story! I really hope your husband is "Shawn's" father.

Your son will be in my prayers. Please take care of yourself (and tell dh to do the same). You must be just reeling right now with all going on.

What a story! This really is so interesting & I can't wait for more updates.
Your family is in my prayers<3
