This month my American Express bill had a surprise...a transaction at the GF Spa on March 1st. I haven't been to the GF Spa since last October and wasn't even in Florida on March 1st. Nope, no mail or phone orders, either. I filed a dispute with American Express and I'm sure they'll sort it out, but if you've been to the GF Spa, you might want to check your credit card statements for unexpected transactions.

It's probably a good idea to always look at your charges every month, regardless. It's easy to ignore, but you never know when something like this could happen.

I balance my c/c statement to my receipts every month...it is real money you know!!!

thats funny i had a charge on my amex bill for a restraunt i have not gotten dinner at for about 3 months. I too disputed the charges....

This come froms experience of having my credit card used without my authorization. I would immediately cancel the existing card. I would also check my other accounts for any unusual activity.

So far this has happened to me three times at a gas station and a movie theater. I use my debit card so I'm always aware of every charge when I use it. Unfortunately due to an occasional dishonest employee who thinks it's a credit card, they put it through at a future time and hope that you don't pay that close attention to your credit card statements. I have always been reimbursed. Just be careful to always go over your statements and make sure you indeed did make the purchases yourself!

There is an ironic side to my OP; I manage the bank card programs for a major Federal agency. Of all the people for this to happen to! I am really aware that everyone needs to monitor their card statements for any unauthorized transactions!

Then you also know about the missing tapes that have federal card info and personal info on them. Major concern for my DH as he is a navy reservist and his info may have been compromised. It's a real pain and now we have to monitor our credit reports even more carefully.

This happened to my dh, but at the Grand Californian spa about a year and a half ago. Rather then contact our credit card we first contacted Disney. They were very helpful and it was reversed within minutes. They keep excellent records and were able to easily verify we had not been there the day it was charged. How the double charge (it was a 2nd charge for the massage he had been given 3 months prior) was explained to us, was some sort of error since he paid with a credit card rather then charge to the room. The new charge showing up was supposedly someone doing the bookkeeping who thought dh's room should have been charged when in fact he had already paid by credit card, because his bill had been started as a room charge and then switched to cc but his room charge was never closed out... or something like that. Either way they fixed it immediately, gave a million apolgies and we never had any further issues.

AMEX is great with this sort of support. You shouldn't have any problem researching and then disputing any charges you know you didn't make.

On the other hand, you should also contact Disney and attempt to determine what happened. They may attempt to work something out for you.

The above advice is good, too. If you believe, as well may be possible, that you are a victim of identity theft, take action now and protect yourself! Transfer money to more secure accounts and cancel any cards you have active that you don't need to use. This could be the beginning of something far worse than an accidential charge.

In addition, if you should happen to determine that some individual has obtained the use of your ATM number, just about all bank ATM's have a camera. You are entitled to demand that they provide the tapes if you become a victim of identity theft.

Here to hoping this is the extreme end of advice and will not be necessary.

This happened with my AMEX, too. Ironically, it was after I had used it for a Disney trip. Then all these gas station charges from Orlando kept showing up on my statements. Weird, huh?

Not to start any controversy, but maybe it's WDW employees going to the computer systems and finding CC numbers? Just a thought...albeit a far-fetched thought at that.

scanne - I don't think it is so far fetched at all. People who work in stores do this all the time. My dh is a detective and he works those types of cases EVERY DAY.
