Not sure what to do

Hello everyone,

We are going to AKV Kidani in 2 weeks for our first trip as DVC members! We booked a 2 Bdr, as my parents were thinking about joining us. I don't have my parents name on the reservation yet. We have purchased the regular dining plan for me DH and the kids. Mom and dad don't want to commit yet - and the dining plan needs to be purchased before we get there.

What happens if mom and dad come the day after we get there? Can they stay with us even though they wouldn't have purchased the dining plan - when would I have to tell MS? Will they let me add my parents after we get there? Is there a charge?

I don't know the answer to your questions, but I would sure give MS a call and see that they have to say.

No commitment from them at only two weeks out, wow.

While Member Services and/or Disney can make exceptions, the ball is entirely in their court. "Officially" the parents would need to be added to the reservation and the DDP prior to your checkin. IF they arrive and are added after checkin, they are supposed to be charged the full price for the DDP, even the night of your arrival, even if they arrive later.

MS may offer some alternatives, or they may not.

That is really all we can say here. You'll need to contact MS.

And just a gentle reminder to folks thinking of posting alternatives, we do not allow posting or suggesting ways around printed Disney/DVC policies on our DVC Boards.

You have the proverbial catch 22, we have been in this situation several times but only once at check in, the rest were during the week. You want the DP, you have guests that either may or may not come or in our case, were planning to come for the day and decided to stay a couple of days. You don't want to buy the DP and they don't go but you're willing to add them at check in if you can and they do make it. Ultimately you'll have to pick your poison and decide which chance to take. I can assure you that it's almost certain you can't add the DP at check in and that you can't cancel it then either if they decide not to go. Some take it a step further and purposefully omit guests they know are going to manipulate the DP options or in some cases, add phantom guests for the extra credits. I think you need to have a serious discussion with the involved parties. Personally I'd simply leave it the way it is unless the parents agree to pay for it even if they don't go. If you know for sure in time you could change it or you could do as we have, acknowledge the rules and offer to add them if allowed. We were told no and given extra keys without additional DP options.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I talked to mom and dad after reading your replies and they are willing to let me add them to the reservation and purchase the dining plan now.
