My daughter is just now getting over being sick, she started sneezing this past Saturday and we went trick or treating Saturday night (it was really cold) and that is when it started - she did not run any fever so her doc just said it could be viral, could be the changing weather affecting her asthma/allergies, ect - she had bad congestion, hacking, runny nose - it kept her down a couple of days. She only went back to school today and was still not 100% but well enough to go back.

She has missed karate practice all this week and she has her first tournament next weekend. She also attends girl scouts and they have an outing this Saturday planned at a nearby camp - there will be all kinds of outdoor activities such as rope bridges, archery, ect - they will be outside from 8 until 4 and the weather is going to be in the 50's - we just stopped having 80 degree days so it's a sudden shift in temp. I'm just afraid she will relapse and get sick again since she is just now getting over whatever she had.

Bottom line - if she gets sick again she misses much needed karate practice next week and possibly the tournament which she really wants to go to. DH says to keep her home this Saturday but I keep going back and forth because she really wants to attend the GS outing too. She takes medications to control the allergies/asthma but sometimes it does not help enough.

They also have another outing next Thursday at an equestrian camp and she will get to ride horses, ect - she will be well enough by then to be over her cold or whatever she had. Common sense says keep her home, but the guilt factor is pulling me to let her go and hope for the best.

I think it would be a good idea to run this by your doctor.

I spoke to her doctor - he was no help. He just said do what I think was best. :confused3

Said he could not predict what would happen since she does not have any fever and is on the upswing from being sick. He said she could get sick again and may not. Basically I got charged 40 bucks for what I already knew.

I say send her and if she gets sick again then she misses stuff. I would hope for the best. It is not like she is getting over mono or pneumonia. I might alter her schedule and not allow the GS camp thing if that was the case.

I would see how she feels. Being outside isn't going to make her sicker. If she is back to school she should be fine. I would send her with a phone or tell the leader if she gets too tired to call and I would go get her. Sometimes fresh air is very good for you and 50's isn't cold. My DD away at school had the exact same thing with just about the same timing and she is doing fine by today. I'd give her some decongestant and if she wants to go send her.

The Dr said do what you want because there doesn't seem to be a medical reason not to send her IMO.

I would more than likely send her as well. The decision would be how she is THAT day. DD11 is in the midst of strep throat, and it is her first day back also. Busy weekend coming up, and hopefully she can partake.

OT: I would love some 50 weather. We had snow on Halloween. ;)

DH is adament about her skipping it. I kind of want to let her go. We decided to see how today and tomorrow goes with her and then decide.

This is the third time in three months she has gotten sick with something so fingers crossed. :worship::scared:

Fingers crossed for your DD to stay healthy!

Don't forget that it's germs that make people sick with colds, not playing outside in cold/wet weather (despite what our grandmas told us). Since she's not quite 100% from her last illness, just make sure she gets plenty of rest and fluids so that she has plenty of energy for playing! And remind her to wash or sanitize her hands before she eats, and to keep her hands away from her face. Just so she doesn't pick up a new germ.
