Not sure if this is the right place to ask a question

So, if it isn't, could someone send me to the right place?

Dh and I are interested in renting points for our anniv trip next June. When should I investigate into points, and how do you generally pay for the points, and is there a guarantee for purchasing the points (say I bought them, and got to WDW and those points had already been used?) I am definitely a newbie to the DVC scene so any info or a link with more info would be appreciated. I have scrolled some of the DVC stuff, but haven't gotten very far!

Many Thanks! pixiedust:

If that happens simply go to the Magic Kingdom, find the nearest Disney face character (Fairy Godmother would be best) and explain the situation. I'm sure they'll know what to do.

You'll want to visit the Rent/Trade board and see if you can find someone who has what you need. They'll make the reservation for you and will usually have a contract of some sort, as well as a payment method, spelled out in the agreement. It's a matter of trust on both sides. There's nothing stopping them from cancelling your reservation, but there's nothing stopping you from not paying and having them possibly lose the points if they make a reservation for you that you don't live up to. I've been reading these boards for two years and seldom have seen any problems on either side. DVC seems to bring out the best in people - unless you ask about pool-hopping or mug use!!!

You'll be making a reservation from an individual and not from Disney. So any agreements will be between you and the member. That includes cancellation and changes. It's a little harder to be flexible with a DVC reservation. Know when you want to go and where you want to stay. The member can make a reservation at their home resort 11 months from check out date, so if it is important to you to stay in a specific resort, you'll want to get with a member who has points at that resort no later than the first of July.

Some members charge more for points for reservations with a long lead time. Some charge more for larger units, busy times, etc. Some charge the same no matter what time you want. And there will always be someone with firesale points (but you might not be able to get your dates or location with not much time until you stay).

No guarantee, other than the integrity of the member and the purchaser. Most (probably nearly all) members who make reservations for non-members will not cheat you. But lots of members are just as worried about non-members who don't follow through on the rental, they don't pay on time, they want to change the dates/location, they trash the villa during their stay, they want the member to make all sorts of changes/additions during the time before the vacation.

Best to ask the member to provide a contract. Look it over ahead of time. Agree to agree on everything at some point. If not, find someone else. If you don't find anyone else, maybe you need to change your sticking points.

Renting a reservation from a DVC member is a great way to get a wonderful vacation with wonderful lodging at a lower price than you would pay for many other lodging through Disney. But you have to play fair and follow the rules.

There are FAQs at the top of the Rent/Trade Board that you should read before you post.

Good luck and I hope you get what you need. :wave2:
