Not sure if this is the right board, but I have to ask anyhow..

NOT filling a cart at wal-mart, then target, then paying at Home Depot.

You mean you can't do that? But the lines are so much shorter there! :confused3

That make Christmas shopping so much easier. I could get everything I need from Macy's, Sears etc.. and pay for it at Pretzel Time.

I think they should fess up and admit they got caught using a Beach Club mug from 1998. While pool hopping. With 3 other people in the room with them.

I presented the scenario to my 14 yr. old, he loves WDW. :mickeyjum Anyway, I asked him if he would "shop" according to the CM's instructions. He said, "No way, you gotta pay first! Then he asked me why a CM would say that to a customer. :teeth:

It seems like more inconsistencies have come up since that thread was close. :rolleyes1

But dang it, Lou - they had the receipt from 10 years ago for the George Foreman grill! :teeth:

I don't think for a minute that the cast member told them this was what they could do.

I think this was going to be their defense if caught. They were caught. Their explanation/excuse didn't make sense, wasn't correct, wasn't believed, and they were arrested and banned. Oops....

Most cases of shoplifting are done for the thrill of the event. They have found that it's not so thrilling to get caught, and even less so to present your case on a message board.

As Doctor Phil would say, "How'd that work out for ya?".

They thought they had a plan that would work. As it turns out, not so much.

I have to applaud your efforts to try to convince everyone to slow down and really THINK about what that thread was saying, and question the inconsistencies. :thumbsup2

Thank you!

I still need some clarification on one point though.. Somewhere it was mentioned that they might have been planning a scam where they would be falsely accused and they would turn around and sue Disney for "false arrest" and hopefully get all kinds of freebies out of the deal..

The only problem is they actutally were shoplifting and surely they weren't under the impression that their statement about the CM would get them off the hook - no questions asked - and they would turn around and sue because even my 7 year old granddaughter could figure out that an excuse like that wouldn't fly.. So just what was the plan?

To me it seems it could only have been to obtain goods without paying for them and nothing more - right? :confused3

But that's exactly what he's done. He's claiming his partner was falsely arrested because they were told they could take the bag and now he's talking about suing.

Possible motives, I guess:

1. Thrill of the theft.
2. Set up a false arrest/accusation situation (which back fired when the got arrested and banned), extort Disney for free stuff (he mentioned park tickets).
3. Obtaining goods without paying.
4. They really are as naive as they say, with no intent of anything (yeah, right).

We'll likely never know.

He can't be serious.. Based on what? Do you mean to tell me that two adult men - one who supposedly works in the field of psychology and the other who supposedly "was" a NYPD officer - actually think they can just stand up in court and say, "Well, the CM told us to...." Good grief - a preschooler comes up with better explanations than that!

Gosh - I've seen a lot of things on this board over the past 5 years or so, but this really takes the cake!!!!!

My dh is an NYPD sergeant, I can't really say what he does, but he works at the academy - he told me that no one from Disney has ever came and spoke with the recruits for any type of training, ever. Trust me, if someone from Disney was there, I would know. Probation for a new officer is 2 years - and the fact that he was arrested is grounds for his dismissal. Even though the charges were later dropped, he can still be fired because of the inital arrest. He will have to sue the city to get his job back. My dh is skeptical about everything and everyone - if he is given an extra fifty cents back with his change from 7-11 he will go back and give it to the cashier. It's a fact that officers, sgts, ect. are "tested" by members of the nypd to make sure that they are acting ethically, honest, and politely in different situations - I can't believe that no common sense was used in their situation...

kimisabella-- Your post is proof that you can't lie on the DIS. Someone will out you if you do.

C. Ann-- In one of ECurto's posts he talked about security searching a shoplifter without proper police supervision being ammunition for a lawsuit. He said someone could sue and get "something like lifetime [Disney] passes" for that.
