My DH and I are leaving for Universal and Disney next Friday and up until now I thought neither of us would ride the Mummy. I guess I thought it was just a regular roller coaster, and although there are a few coasters we do like, for the most part we hate the dropping feeling in the pit of our stomachs and usually avoid ones with steep drops. I recently found out that the Mummy is so much more than any ride experienced before, going backwards & forwards, uses awesome cgi effects, and I wish we could get the nerve to try it out!

Again, our biggest thing we don't like are drops that give you that weird feeling in your stomach (CAN'T STAND IT, actually)...going upside down and sideways is fine. I'm not a big fan of those superfast launches that go to about 70mph in 2 seconds, but we might still be willing to try it. Could someone please give me a description of this ride? You don't have to go into detail about the visual effects, I mainly want to know what physical sensations we will feel on the coaster...are there big drops? a fast launch? anything super steep? any freefalls? I know part of the fun is not knowing what to expect, but the only way we will go on it is if we know for sure whether we can handle it or not!!!

Thanks so much!!!!!!! :wave2:

I couldn't handle it. Or maybe it was just my stomach and I took Dramamine. It has been compared to RockNRollercoaster and Space Mountaion but it is so much more than those rides in the technical department. It has a 25' drop in the dark at 50 degrees which felt like a free fall. It has a fast launch (not 70 but 45MPH) into a smoke screen.
BTW, I like your dog Chocolate Lab or German Shorthaired Pointer?

I thought the ride was great. I didn't think the drops were steep at all. They probably feel steeper to some because of the darkness, but I certainly never got that feeling in my stomach (which by the way I love;) ) If you're afraid of getting sick, maybe go on it at the end of the day, this way if you get sick you'll be going back to your room anyway and if you don't get sick you can ride it over and over the next day:p Even if you decide not to go on, you'll have a great time there. Have fun:D

Laura,

I feel the same way you do. Please remember to let us know what you decided and how you did. I'm not going until Sept. but I REALLY want to ride this one. I usually just wait for the kids on the other ones. Never been on Space Mtn. or Splash Mtn. I even hate it when airplanes hit those air pockets......:faint:

I never got a stomach drop on this ride. The only thing that scared me at all was not knowing what was coming. (When it was over, I actually felt kind of let down--after all that talk of exploiting nine phobias or whatever.) I think if you can handle Space Mountain, you can handle this one. If you can't handle Space Mountain, this would probably be a good one to skip.

I can only compare it to Space Mountain because it is in the dark. Space Mountain is very jerky and I don't like it.
With that being said, I was a little nervous about riding Mummy the first time I tried it. I am absolutely terrified of going upside down and thought since the Mummy doesn't have any loops then I could handle it. This is what I can honestly tell you I remember about the first time I rode it.
The backwards drop is very tame (think POTC), the rotation is a bit strange and the launch was very intense. The worst part of the ride was not knowing what was coming next. I remember the not so much having that weird feeling in my stomach as to being scared of what was coming next. The coaster part was fast in my opinion, and completely in the dark. You really cannot see what is coming next. The fake unload and the quick drop after that was not bad at all. What makes it so good is that it is totally unexpected.
I think it is definately worth trying. The build up for it is much more than the actual ride.
Now, with that being said, I am totally addicted to that ride and must ride it at least 5 times each time I am there which would equal since May my ride total somewhere around 25 times. It is really is the best ride out there and I am cannot wait till next weekend when I can ride it again!
You should definately try it, you will be sorry if you don't, it's really great!!

Ah, Cmon, its great!

The backwards drop is nothing, very tame. The Upwards launch is very cool, and the whole coaster section is very cool due to the Darkness... My first coaster was RnRc, and I loved it, I think Mummy is much better, and a little tamer if you ask me...

Trust me, try it, you will love it. I guarntee it.

I'm a big chicken too, but I loved Mummy! Like Momof3 said it's more the unexpected that is scarey. As soon as it was over I wanted to ride it again so I could enjoy it! LOL
It's sort of a combination of RRC and SM, but much more! I was worried about the backwards oart but it was short and tame.
We ended up going single riders for about 6 times this past Sunday after two times going together! LOL::yes::

I know what you mean! It's like you just keep wanting to ride it more and more! I could probably go 10 ten times in a row and still want more!:hyper:

My 6 year old handled it. He's ready to do it again. I think it is one of the best rides out there. I drug my friend on it with me, because I thought she would really appreciate the thought put into it. She did. We are thirtysomething ladies, too. You really need to ride it just to see what kind of rides they are making these days. I think I would put the coaster on the same scale as Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain, though smoother. The coaster part is not that crazy.

It's not an overly intense ride. You have to be prepared for airtime though. That last drop into the fire pit always lifts me completely out of my seat. You'll get less if you sit in the front row. The back row far left seat is the roughest.

To date, it is the best ride we have been on! We specifically travel to amusement parks to try rides!
To me it is: Dinosaur, Rock n Roll Rollercoaster and Test Track all rolled into one! WONDERFUL!!!:teeth:

I am the world's biggest chicken when it comes to rides, especially anything that goes in the air and then comes back down. Before we left in early August, I absolutely thought I hated coasters. I thought I was terrified of them. Then I made a bet with my DS14 that if I lost, I would ride Mummy. I lost. (I of course was then even crazier and bet him a Hulk ride - I lost that bet too.)

I was petrified standing in line for Mummy. I had read about the launch, the backwards drop etc. I was anticipating the worst.

So when we went backwards, it was almost anti-climactic. Darn, I wanted to be petrified of something much worse than that. Then the turn, and we faced the launch. Ohh boy, here is that launch I heard about. Time for the heart palpitations.

Wheeee - just as fun as test track. Geez, I was afraid of that? -that was actually really fun.

The first crest after the launch did tickle the tummy a bit (but just the first ride - after that I knew what to expect and unfortunately didn't experience it again). The rest of the ride was a blast.

After I got off it, I thought it was fun, but that pre-conceived fear I have for coasters was creeping back in and I didn't know if I wanted to ride it again. But I forced myself ride it again. And again. And again. And yet again. By the end of our 6 days there, the kids were beginning to say "awwwhhh mom, can't we ride something else now?"

This absolutely huge chicken of all rides became a Mummy Maniac. But you do have to ride it at least 2x to really get the full experience. The first time, it is just sensory overload. The second time, you can relax and really enjoy all the thought that was put into it.

So, go for it. If I can ride it and enjoy it - anybody can!

DH hates coasters, I mean really hates them. He won't even ride BTMRR. However he loves shows, special effects etc so I convinced him to ride Mummy. Well he loved it.
