We are having a welcome party at Tamu Tamu where our guests will be joined by the fab 5 after dinner. Because of this, we have decided to hire a photographer because I want that one shot of everyone with all the characters.

After reading and reading about how bad DP is, I am not sure that I want to spend the money. It is $1600 for one photographer for 3 hours and quite frankly, I could almost do the Fantasmic dessert party that I really want for that kind of money. Everyone there will have a camera and one of our guests does photography for a hobby, so I am just not sure if we need a "real" one.

It seems that they are mediocre at best and for that kind of money, I will be LIVID if we don't get decent pictures. On the other hand, I don't want to regret not getting one.

What do you think?

If all you're after is one shot of all your guests with the characters, I think any Disney photographer should be able to get that. The trouble arises with weddings—which are emotionally charged and built up as the most important day of one's life to begin with—when a bride wants a specific style of photography to tell the story of her day and doesn't get a photographer who meshes with that.

By the same token, if all you're after is that one shot, it seems like chances are pretty good that at least one of your guests will be able to capture it for you (I'm looking at YOU, hobby photographer! :teeth:) so maybe it isn't worth that extra $1,600. ... Or you might decide it's better to take the pressure off the guests and just let Disney take care of it. Gee—I can see about *three* sides to this coin! :rotfl:

We're having our RD at Tamu Tamu and are only paying $350 for 1.5 hours of photography (essentially the same as the Dessert Party package). This includes 2 photogs and a set of 4 x 6 prints.

Why is mine $1600 then? Even if it is twice the time, that should only be twice the price which is $700. NOT $1600!

Would you mind if I contacted my planner and asked her about this? I don't want to get you into any trouble.
