we had one of the hidden porthole rooms (5022) - no obstruction! great views! no outside light - no workers walking by. The room was wonderful as well as the extra half bath which was a lifesaver. I did ask the cabin attendant to put the pillows at he opposite end of the bed (head towards window) to the sunlight wouldn't wake the kids in the mornings - he forgot on the 2nd night - but did it on the 3rd. And my daughter had an "accident" which also wet her brother's bed below - and housekeeping was quick to arrive at 2:30am - however it was the last night and our luggage was already "locked up in cages" - no "knickers" available - but they did offer a dry t-shirt. We had spare clothes to disembark - just not extra undies. My daughter just went commando for the next 6 hours until we reclaimed our luggage.

We had the late dinner seating - or so we thought. When we booked a few months ago the early seating was sold out - which was just as well with older kids. But when we got to our room our tickets said 5:45pm. I immediately went to Wavebands before muster to change it. The dining room manager assured us that it wouldn't be a problem. He said to request the early seating would be difficult since no one wants the late seating (except us). He said that he would call our room and leave a message with the table number for the late seating. No problem. We went to the sail away party and then for a swim - since we didn't have to be showered by 5:45pm - or so we thought. My 15 year old was in the Aloft and would meet us at 7:30pm to change for dinner - which didn't matter because people wore shorts a nd t-shirts to dinner anyway. So we went back to the room to get something when we got the message at 5:15pm (not 4pm) that there was no way to change the seating at the show up at 5:45pm. So 3 of us were dripping wet without ironed clothes - covered in suntan lotion - all having to shower in 30 minutes - not to mention the teen roaming the ship. I called guest services telling them we were assured the late seating - just the table number is all we needed - and that 30 minutes notice was not enough - we were fortunate enough to stop by the room also to get the message (that didn't come at 4pm). Guest Services said nothing could be done. No apology. Nothing. No explanation about us booking the late seating - just too bad. There was a mention of the ship being full - and this was a first - no one wanting to swap to the late seating.

We called Aloft and left a message for our son to meet us in his t-shirt at Parrot Cay for his birthday dinner. Dinner was very slow. We had to drop several hints about it being my son's birthday. Everyone around us had finished and left - they were setting up for the next seating when they finally brought his cake to him. It said "Congratulations". I noticed other cakes said Happy Birthday. My son didn't catch it luckily. I didn't think dinner would end. It was close to 7:45pm. We did send my daughter's steak back the first night - the kid's menu never mention the steak being smothered in gravy. The 2nd night we were given the wrong entrees and the 3rd the wrong desserts - and no coffee offered. The 3rd night my daughter ordered the filet mignon from the adult menu and they brought has a sirloin from the lighter fare menu. Of course - she didn't notice. We had better service from the breakfast crew.

My daughter overheard one of her counselors at Oceaneer Lab telling another girl, "It's okay to be rude in life, but your parents need to spend more time with you." And we signed her into the theater one night and a different counselor grabbed her by the arm and asked, "Just where do you think you're going, Princess?" She was afraid of him the remainder of the cruise. She did love the Ratatouille Cooking Class! I like to mix it, mix it!

We canceled our trip to (Comfort Suites) Atlantis because of our early dinner at 5:45pm. The ship left at 7pm. Plus it was a little chilly. We just walked around Nassau. We were getting dressed for dinner when the phone rang after 5pm telling us they switched us to the later seating sharing a table with another party. We had already showered and stopped swimming at this point. We told them we wanted our original seating - once again - 30 minutes - too short of notice. We already gave up a few hours in port.

We did go to the Toy Stoy Musical - but it was the movie...acted out...but with different, unheard of songs. I don't know why they couldn't sing the familiar ones from the movie. We used the excuse of our pager going off to leave early.

The disembarkation day you are supposed to go to the last restaurant that you ate dinner at 6:30am (if you have early seating) or 8am for late seating. Luckily we had heard that you could go to the Beach Blanket buffet until 9 or 10am. No need to wake extra early. But that was not on the navigator at all. It didn't mention any other dining options.

I even stopped by the future booking desk to inquire about dinner reservations. She said 90% of the time you get the seating you request. But once again - no apology offered or reason given. The last night we were able to get many autographs of characters. Many times they were available for photos only - no autographs. Much of the cruise our book that we purchased only had one signature.

On Castaway Cay - my 15 year old spent the day at the teen beach. A rope he climbed on had splintered in his hand. He also had "sea lice" on the backs of his legs - or so he was told by the first aid station. The nurse also picked out as much of the rope from his hands as possible. I was never notified about either. My son only told me when he asked for tweezers to get the splinters out. I would have thought that there would have been a written report made to the parents. My son said the water from the shower made the sea lice worse. I looked up online sea lice when we got home and freash water soon after is the worse thing you can do. We were never given - nor sold any treatment once back onboard.

I've only been on one other cruise - Royal Carribean - a sold out ship during Christmas. The food and server was fabulous. This was the first time with the kids. So they have nothing to compare.

I hope my experience was an unfortunate, isolated one. I had high expectations because of the Disney name and quality - not to mention the price we paid compared to any other cruise.

Wow - I'm really surprised by most of the issues you encountered. I've been on three DCL cruises (2 on the Wonder and 1 on the Magic) and have never had any major issues.

Sorry to hear you had such a difficult time.

I am very surprised about you not being able to get late dining the first night. So sorry things didn't go well.

I am disappointed about them taking away Hercules for the Toy Story show, but we will go see it when we sail in March (since it is new). I would have rather them had the Twice Charmed from the Magic on there if they had to change the show.

I was on the same cruise. I was told they were 300 -400 short of being full. Was cold at the private island. My kids ages 13,11,9 and 8 had a ball though. They stayed at the Oceaneer's club for 2 whole days. The last night-Saturday we went and got them and they started crying because they still had 2 hrs left!!! Kids are ready to go back.

Was upgraded from inside cabin to outside cabin with adjoing rooms.

Did you book through a travel agent? If you did, you should have called them or sent them an e mail telling them of the situation of the dining.
Also, next time bring your reservation, it would have been on there.

Sorry for the disappointment.

No cruise is perfect even if on the Wonder. Sorry you didn't receive everything you were expecting. Take what was good about the cruise & enjoy that. Happy sailing to you and your family :cool1:

We learned on our first cruise to leave out extra "knickers" because you never know who might need them after you've sent your luggage out.

I'm sorry you all had so many things that were "off" for your cruise.

We enjoyed the Toy Story Musical on the Wonder - I liked the original songs and was actually glad it wasn't a total replay of the movie.

Great idea about which way to put the pillows on the bunks for the kids. We've always had the heads toward the middle of the cabin, but you're right - the sun will come in and wake sleeping children earlier than necessary! I'm going to use this idea on our next cruise to have their heads at the end closer to the verandah door so they'll be sheltered from the sun even when I step out early.

I was wondering about celebrations onboard for birthdays - do you have to tell them ahead of time that you want to celebrate a birthday in the dining room and if so, do you have your TA do it or have it noted on your reservation? How does that work?

Toy Story...I LOVED the movie and was so excited to see it on the Wonder in April. We truly did not like it at all, I fell asleep and my 12 yr old DD kept begging us to leave, I said no it's Toy Story it will get better, it never did :sad2:

We are leaving on Saturday and our TA made note for my Dh's birthday, I'll let you know when we get back, how it went, IF it went LOL

Sorry you were disappointed. My husband and I were on the Wonder right before you (November 16 - 20) and had a fabulous time.

The OP's choice in forum name and thread title, coupled with his/her number of posts, sort of telegraphs the fact that s/he has a rather transparent ax to grind, don't you think?

I've been on 11 DCL cruises and, although not each one was picture perfect each time, DCL's level of service and overall attitude towards pleasing its guests keeps DW and I returning. It sounds to me that DCL did exactly what it should have done, tried to accommodate and please the OP's traveling party by rearranging the dining schedule.

I've been on 3 Disney cruises with my 4th one this Saturday. In my opinion, DCL's guest services is a lot to be desired when you have a problem. I never would have cruised Disney again and the reason I went back after my first cruise is when I got home I was offered 50% off my next cruise, after that it was my husbands company that paid for us to go on the Wonder and now my friends are cruising or believe me DCL is not my first choice of cruise lines.

This 7 night cruise will be the deciding factor if I cruise DCL again. Because after having been on RCCL this is my first 7 night on DCL since and we LOVED RCCL. But don't think because your cruise may not have been perfect for you that DCL has great customer service because oh my Lord back in 2002 there was sooooo much room for improvement.

NOW what I would have done in the OP situation is taken out my reservation and said I have late seating and if I got no where I would have called my TA...and if she didn't have a TA then she will know better the next cruise. I learned that lesson on my frst cruise.

Anyway, on a brighter note I'm excited to be cruiseing on Saturday and am looking forward to warm weather and just RELAXING!!! :thumbsup2
THREE MORE DAYS! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Re-reading the OP's post, it says
We had the late dinner seating - or so we thought. When we booked a few months ago the early seating was sold out - which was just as well with older kids. But when we got to our room our tickets said 5:45pm.

which makes me think that their TA "wait listed" them for main dining when they booked. And the wait-list came through, but the OP didn't know the TA had wait listed them. So they were all set for late dining but got put on main dining.

The entire first paragraph of the OP's has nothing to do with DCL. Her daughter had the accident, not DCL. The complaint about the luggage 'already' locked up at 0230hrs is pretty baseless. They have to pick up the luggage for disembarkation and 'lock it up' since it's no longer "locked up" in your stateroom. How is it DCL fault that the OP didn't have clean underwear left out for her daughter to put on the next day? So it's DCL's fault that the OP was going to have her daughter wear dirty "knickers" the following day?

As for the seating arrangements, you should have brought your ressies. If they said second seating I think DCL would have done a lot more to accomadate.

As for the B-day cake, the OP stated that she noticed the "other cakes" said happy b-day. How many other people celebrated their B-day during the first seating on the first night? The OP was at a vantage point to observe "all" of these B-Day cakes?

As for the Oceaneer Lab comment....I noticed that the context of the comment was not mentioned. Perhaps this "other girl" was having a personal conversation about her parents and claimed to the counselor that her parents don't spend time with her etc...even so, IF she said it, she probably shouldn't have.

As for Toy Story the Musical, if all the OP wanted was to watch a musical which was exactly the same as the movie, she could have done that in her stateroom. They showed TS a few times during our cruise.

I noticed that nothing positive was posted as if the entire cruise was bad. I'm not saying that DCL is perfect but some of these complaints are pretty trivial. Like the sea lice thing, as if DCL has any control over miniscule wildlife inhabiting the ocean around Castaway cay.....As someone else posted, seems like they came here with an axe to grind.....

I noticed that another poster was on the same cruise and complained about it being 'cold' on Castaway Cay. Did he expect high temps when he booked his trip for November?

:rolleyes1

THREE MORE DAYS! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Boy, mjasp, you missed the point of my post entirely. It is obvious from the OP's screen name, title of thread and number of posts that s/he had an agenda - and that agenda was to criticize just about everything that s/he experienced on her three-day cruise: her child's potty accident, the weather, the ocean and her dining time (which, as another poster correctly noted, was either her or her TA's fault. She had no idea whether she had early or late seating, complained about it when it wasn't what she wanted, and DCL managed to rearrange things and accommodate her the following day...to which s/he then decided she didn't like DCL's effort and kept things the way they were. Sounds to me as if DCL bent over backwards to make her cruise experience an enjoyable one).

As I noted, no cruise line is perfect. Your experience will vary from cruise to cruise. But I have cruised on DCL since 1999, on both the Wonder and the Magic, on short itineraries, seven-day itineraries, special itineraries and ten-day itineraries. Overall, IMHO, the level of service - even after encountering a glitch or problem - we have received from them is far superior to the other cruise lines we have been on [Holland America and RCCL]).

Here's hoping that your upcoming cruise meets all of your expectations. Enjoy.

I'm sorry you were so unhappy with your cruise. We are taking our 1st DCL next december and I hope we have a wonderful time.

I'm sorry you did not get the dining time you requested. I would definately check with your TA now that you are home, and see if you were actually confirmed for late seating. And did you tell your head waitor that your dining server was so bad? wrong meals is something that i have never experienced on any of the cruises i have been on! I definately would have spoken to the head waitor about it. Also....regarding your DS's birthday....did your TA notify DCL that you were celebrating his birthday?? Just "dropping hints" all evening is not going to guarantee him a cake. If DCL was not aware of the occassion, how could they have known to have a cake ready. Maybe it took so long because they were making it???

Sorry you were disappointed, but in 7 cruises, we've been very pleased w/ the customer service and that is why we continue to go on DCL.

Yes, as far as the b-day cakes, we have always notified them before cruising that there was a special occasion. 2 b-days and 1 anniversary and have always been given a cake w/out mentioning it. In fact on our first cruise, we were even surprised by the cake. So maybe they didn't have enough b-day cakes available for that day. Not sure.

I guess since we had never seen Toy Story (I know that sounds crazy) we enjoyed it.

I hope you give the cruiseline another chance because it did sound like they tried to accomodate.

Hmmm... One post... Lasttimeondisney... Hmmmm...

I post regularly on a sports board and we refer to these types of people as "trolls". They come with an agenda and get everyone to comment and never return.

We are going on our first cruise in March. Do we expect perfection ?? Nope, but we do expect a good time. In all of the times we have traveled to Disneyland as well as Disney World, we have never had a perfect trip. However, there has never been a bad trip either.

People who expect perfection usually need to look no further than the mirror to find their first imperfection.

Sorry you had a bad time.

It's your own fault for not having extra underwear. Can't feel bad about that.

It's also too bad you couldn't move the pillows from one end of the bed to another. Doesn't seem that hard.

It seems like you have a bunch of petty complaints. I also think you are complaining about something (the underwear) that you could have helped, especially if you knew your daughter was prone to accidents.

Honestly...the weather puts a bummer on things...trust me I know....everything can escalate from there...but on the positive side of things...you try to see all the great things about your cruise first!

Sea lice is very real....we went on the next cruise after this OP and my son got sea lice on his leg...no its not Disney's fault.....stuff happens and you have to deal....put some cortisone on it...give them claritin or benedryl. If there is a fever, then go to the doctor.

Potty accidents happen to......its the luck of the draw...was my son sunshine and peaches the whole cruise???? No...he had his meltdowns but in all respect so does everyones kid...otherwise we would have stepford children:)LOL....no one wants that...perfection...yeah right...yet honestly DCL comes close....loved the cruise...hated the weather...but will cruise with DCL again despite thhe rumbles of family tantrums and little accidents along the way.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Totally agree. I notice no response yet either.

I agree. We do nothing without an extra pair of underwear. And since 9 is kind of old to be having them, it's more than likely she has this problem more than just one time and her perhaps she needs some underjammies on. No big deal. I know other kids who have this problem at night.

OK, it's been a really long time since I have watched Toy Story, but I can only think of one song in the movie. Is there more? Is it considered a musical movie? Theo nly one I can think of is kind of slow and is something about yuou've got a freind in me.
