Really enjoying your reports. Looking forward to the next installment!!!

OK, I will try to get done with AK and then I really need to do some housework/pack for our week end trip that starts tomorrow... San Antonio, not WDW. Still fun.

Part 9 (I think) AK

We also decide to brave the Kali rapids this time. We skipped it last time because we didn’t want to get all wet and our daughter, Sophia, was only 6. That sounded like a better excuse in my head, the part about Sophia being only 6. But this time we decide to brave it.

We were very brave looking in our ponchos.

The kids were rather insulted that I made them wear ponchos on the ride. Miserable, soaked children are just not my idea of a good time. Plus, they were for the rain.

Really.

It rained a bit while we were in line.

The queue is pretty cool. Well actually it was really hot, but I meant cool in the neat-o sort of way. Better than the ride, really. After that we head over to Conservation Station. This is another thing we missed last time.

Disclaimer, we are not so normal as families go (is anyone?). We have a mortgage and three kids and two cars, one a rather sensible sedan (I love my Camry) and even a dog, but really that is all just coincidental. People find us odd. I can tell. We are dilettantes. No not debutantes, people, look it up. I might not talk as fancy as Zzub, but I understand his fancy lawyer talk, I do, I do. Even if I can’t spell worth a darn.

We love to learn things, really anything. Possibly everything, time permitting. We collect old books, old coins, old rocks , old dead life forms, and apparently old furniture and toys. We read all the signs and like to hunt down naturalists in the Animal Kingdom and ask them all sorts of questions. I am not telling you all this just to pass the time. I am trying to explain myself, because what I am about to say is akin to saying one enjoys Maelstrom.

Well that is a bad example, because who wouldn’t like that crazy fun water ride?

What I am about to say is out of the norm, and I know people read these reports while they are in the WDW planing stages (except for some of us freaks that read these all the time as a form of entertainment, LY/MI). Anyhow I don’t want to lead anyone astray. I can see why some people think the AK is a half day park. It bewilders me, but so do most things about other people. We are hoping to spend two full days at the AK on our next trip.

OK, I am just going to say it. We like the petting zoo. No, we loved it.

Don’t think less of us.

We live in the burbs, goats are out of the norm for us. But way back when I was a little girl my Grandparents had a farm. I loved the farm. The old horses were my favorite. They seemed so kind and wise. We don’t even have a real zoo in Austin so the petting zoo is a unique experience for our kids. Sophia loves all creatures. She likes nothing more than to dig for grubs and worms. Or feed dolphins at $4 a pop. Or, possibly most of all, spend hours in a swelteringly hot butterfly tent.

We especially liked the petting zoo (why do I feel so self conscious about this? It is all Tourguidemikes fault. One of the few points I disagree with him on) because there were several naturalists/cms standing around looking as if they wanted nothing more than to share their vast knowledge of farm animals. With us! Cool.

Really we asked one question and within seconds we had a group of them following us around telling us stuff. Cool is relative, I guess (although I am not a relativist, I am an absolutist, but that is an entirely unrelated topic, and not really appropriate for this forum). So at ant rate, the petting zoo was great. They have a goat named Max. We have a child named Max. We, of course, needed pictures of Max with Max. I’ll add it latter. Maybe. If you are all good and post lots of nice replies.

Apparently Max (the goat) likes to eat paper. I am not sure about Max the child, I need to be more observant, maybe. We got to hear several funny stories about Max eating peoples money. He knew where to look for it, in peoples pockets. I think that goat wants a job in Disney marketing.

I think our friend Max may have been following us around WDW. We couldn’t seem to keep any money in our pockets. Something about getting all that food for free made us feel compelled to buy tons of stuff. Plus they had all these booths in Epcot selling wine. It is just wrong to not spend money in WDW, I guess.

We stayed in the petting zoo area until they kicked us out, er, um, said the park was closing. We went to Spoodles for dinner that night and the kids loved it there. I am not sure exactly why, but it was their favorite meal of the trip. We did have a very nice server who took extra good care of Max (the boy, not the goat). Free food is almost always good in my book, and the free food at Spoodles was very good. We will dine here again in October. I think. Maybe. Yeah. Friday Oct 6th at 6:30, to be exact.

Next up Epcot all day and a guy named Max.

we did nearly 2 days at AK and still didn't see everything. We missed Pocahontas (cos we hate the film) and saw FOTLK twice (because its brilliant). Next time we will give the dinosaur area a complete miss to spend more time looking at real animals tha move! :woohoo: :hippie:

max max max is it all about Max, max he son, max he goat, next up max the man?? LOL Cant wait to hear more

I agree that AK is not a half day park. We also spent alot of time at the petting zoo. Really, it is not like we don't see animals. I live in a zoo. Maybe that was the attraction, felt like home :thumbsup2

So on the other side of the main street that we live off of, there is just brush and oak trees. And goats. There are a few herds of goats across the street. And there are some cattle across the other street. Our house is zoned such that we could keep goats or chickens or sheep or cows in our back yard if we wanted. I actually mentioned more than once that I wanted to get a goat or a sheep (according to someone or other sheep are better since they dont eat grass down to the roots) to keep the lawn and weeds down, but someone else was against this idea. I even mentioned that someone said that we could get some farm animals and declare ourselves a ranch and save on taxes.

Isn't the petting zoo what everyone goes to AK for? Give in and let Mr. Silly have his tax write off. The kids will love ya'! Love the TR girl! :thumbsup2

I think 'across the street' is a tad misleading. You mean across from our subdivision. Next to the Freescale campus. I wonder if they are a 'ranch'??

You just don't like to mow.

You know Cowboy (our doggie) will not share. I say we plant Avacado trees and call ourselves a farm... like that guy Kent you know. Avacados are yummy.

We don't live in California anymore. Avocado trees can't survive in Texas. It's both too hot in the Summer and too cold in the Winter. Sheep are better. We could get an ewe and name her Frank. Cowboy might even like Frank once he got to know her. He could herd her around the yard. They post livestock for sale for cheap on Craiglist fairly often. I've even seen goats in the free section.

Ok, maybe a sheep. But I think the little girl Sophia likes to play with is already named Frank. Not sure how she would feel about it.

No goats though. Goats will eat our fence.

Actually some sheep would really p.o. the psyco guy who lives behind us. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

You guys should really get a livingroom. maybe with chairs, and sit in them. You could talk there. :lmao:

Still farm animal free...

Wow it has ben awhile since I updated this. I have been working on a really long aside. However I decided to post it somewhere else because it really has nothing to do with this trip.

I have also been working on our next park day. We did a ton and it is long. I just need to edit it and see if I forgot anything funny. So in the next day or two so long as life is kind to me. As soon as I finish this TR it will be time to start the pretrip reporting for the next trip... :teeth:

Maelstrom is a fastpass!
