I think a DVCer Chit-Chat thread would be nice since I do feel like the DVC community is kind of its own "thing" compared to just the regular community board.

Some of the Resort Specific threads turn into non-DVC chit chat which I think is way more of a problem than a completely separate thread for such topics. I rarely even pop into one of the resort ones anymore because of that reason. I feel like I can't comfortably talk hotel stuff when people in the thread are chatting about their personal lives. Like if someone mentions a relative dying, how the heck do I politely ask a resort question after that?!

Yeah if it was allowed I would start a thread and when we start to get off topic in thread we can just be like lets move this conversation over here and give the link to the chit chat thread.

Actually, many years ago, when the ONE DVC Board broke up into the currect structure, the DVC Community Board was what you describe. But, it basically was duplicating all the threads on the DIS Community Board, and people were cross posting to duplicate threads. That is why the decision was made by the Webmaster at the time, to limit the DVC Community Board to DVC Related subjects. The board was renamed to Mousecellaneous, and is supposed to keep to DVC related subjects.

I'd contact Corey firstto see, as a new account has to go through a check process, and you'll need to do 10 posts to requalify to use Direct Messaging.

I appreciate the idea of a DIS DVC Community board... Speaking for myself, I feel like we have a wonderful community of posters here... every now and then when I don't see a name posting, I hope they are doing okay....

Sad. Many DVC people don’t venture into that area of the boards and don’t want to. Maybe some have complained about threads going off topic and that is unfortunate. But just my opinion and you guys decide what rules to enforce. I really do not see why there can’t be a thread for DVC people to chat in this area. If those who dislike banter or chatting they can just not look at that thread. Again just my opinion and I’ll leave it at that.

Mods don’t decide any rules. We just do our best to keep threads on topic and make sure the rules the boards owners have decided on are followed

To add, the original purpose of this thread was to keep questions and comments that get the ROFR thread way off topic to make it easier for thst thread to be managed and useful for those looking at it for what is happening with the buying and selling of contracts by the DISboard community.

Oh I thought this thread was literally for when things get off topic that were supposed to move the conversation here (which I need to work on lol) but this thread is not for when a thread goes off topic and to move conversation here instead?

Where is this thread for this, I find myself going off topic all the time, not intentional, but its because like if someone mentions anything about aulani now for example on a thread not about aulani, I might ask questions because i genuinely want to know because im going there and it would feel weird to start a new thread just asking the question responding to what was said on the other thread. And then it becomes a whole new topic unintentionally.

my favorite conversations have admittedly been the ones where I get to know the other community members, where weve talked about tv shows (love boat and joked about things like millennial vs gen x)

Ok im doing it again I think oh gosh but seriously If it goes in that off topic direction as it often does, can I just tag the person in the designated off topic thread so the people that dont like off topic conversation dont get upset? I think this could be a solution to make everyone happy if allowed.

Try the Mousecellaneous Board - https://www.disboards.com/threads/dvc-chit-chat-thread.3980029/ But still try to keep it, at least somewhat, DVC related.

To add to what Chuck said, the purpose of these forums are Disney related and in specific the DVC threads to be DVc related.

It’s not meant to be a place where DVC owners can chat about things unrelated to Disney or DVC at all.

Sometimes, things stray, and I leave them longer than some would like. but it’s not fair to those who click on a post thinking it’s about X and it’s no longer about it.

The new thread linked above can be general in nature but as mentioned, it still needs to connect.

Monitoring the boards is a lot of work and having to now make decisions on appropriate topics is what both the Community Board and the Controversial Topics Board are for.
