We have multiple use years and bought each particular use year based upon our travel habits Vero Beach and Hilton Head is an April use year since we are most likely to use those points April-mid August each year and if we were to cancel we would still be able to bank points or have several months to use expiring points. Our Direct contract (VDH) is a June use year and we also have resale at Grand Cal and Aulani in that use year as well since we will probably only travel there in Summer and over Christmas (OBB possible ever other year). We also have December Aulani as well since December and June and July are our most likely travel times. We have one random Poly resale contract that we bought for $110 a point 1.5 years ago that was to good to pass up as well as a December Poly, Riviera and Grand Floridian. We also have an October Riviera that was bought completely loaded with 2023 points and beyond for $103 a point that we also couldn't pass up. At some point we have talked about maybe adding on at Copper Creek for Christmas stays. Most people would think a December would be perfect in this case but October in my opinion seems more ideal considering the blood bath that December was for booking Copper Creek and Boulder Ridge seemed to be this year. Hopefully this gets better with Disney shutting down the major commercial renters. A person almost needs to begin walking a reservation at the 11 month mark in November to get your desired dates and you can't book across your use year so a December use year wouldn't work in this case. So just keep in mind your personal travel habits so you aren't traveling at the end of your use year and ideally traveling before your banking deadline. You also wouldn't want a use year where for example your trip starts at the end of March and extends into April because you'd have to book each month separately if you had an April use year.
DVC is only a money saver if you aren't sacrificing points you can't use and having the wrong use year can increase the likelihood of not using all of your points.
