Not our finest moment as a family..whats yours lol

Luckily our meltdown happened back at our hotel room one night during our last trip.

We had been at Universal for the day, leaving our resort at 7:30AM on a shuttle bus, so we had been up from 6:30am. We stayed all day at both Universal Parks (and hated them but that's a side issue) So we got back to WDW and decided, since we were miserable after being at Universal, we would head for EPCOT which had EMH until midnight. We stayed until close and then headed back for our resort.

BIG MISTAKE! The day was just too long for us, by 11PM, we were grumbling and grouchy. Shortly after we got back to our room, a relatively large fight ensued about anything and everything... Lucky we got over it quickly because we realised we were just so tired. We had tried to cram too much into the one day. Never again...

There is something in the air at Epcot. The first visit with my DM and I in my adult years in 2003 I had to use an ECV because my bum leg that I broke when I was 12. I can walk, just not the miles that Disney parks require. We were doing the WS and she kept asking to sit down so I tried telling her to take the scooter because I was OK to walk for awhile. She kept refusing, but kept wanting to stop which was pissing me off because I wanted to find a good spot for Illuminations. Shouting and snippy remarks went back and forth and every spot I wanted to stop for Illuminations wasn't good for my DM and eventually I just gave up.

And before every trip we're taken during the packing DM has a complete meltdown. One time she totally close lined me and pushed me against a wall. She has never laid a hand on me my entire life so I just walked away. She blames that moment on menopause!

I had a meltdown at Askershus. Planned DD 3rd birthday there. It was cold (February) and one of the people who was coming showed up 40 minutes late so they wouldn't seat us. By the time we froze outside since nothing was open to go inside and stay warm I was pretty grouchy that all my planning had gone down the tubes. I was not a pleasant person when they finally sat us and I probably ruined the meal. I was so ticked off at my friend for not being on time (one of my biggest pet peeves anyways) that the tension in the air was not very fun and I just broke down. Embarrassing for sure now that I think back.

There is definitely something in the air at Epcot! LOL. I keep charging privileges on my teens' room keys so they can get food or little souvenirs if they wander off by themselves. Well, last time my dd decided she "needed" two $25 baseball caps from Japan (one for her, one for her friend) and charged it to the room. For some reason that $50 out of $4000 pushed me right over the edge and I turned into psycho mom. :rotfl: Marched the kids out of Epcot back to the hotel room and gave my dd a huuuge lecture on responsibility and truthfulness and how she was RUINING our WHOLE TRIP by sneaking off buying hats. I can laugh at myself now, but at the time I was so angry. I'm sure it was a combination of heat and low blood sugar that did it. One thing's for sure, my poor dd will never buy hats at Disney again without asking me, hahaha.

Love this thread...My family's worst meltdown was me, 2007. Our arrival day was an extra magic hours day at MK. Unfortunately we had a roof leak the night before and long story short, I had slept maybe one hour the night before our trip. We spent that first day at MK but I was so tired. My DH tried to talk me into leaving to get some rest. But I had to see Wishes. And trying to stay awake and find just the right spot...I (silently) bawled like a baby. I hiccupingly told my DH that it was because we would never be there again. (5 night trip with non hoppers and a very planned schedule.)

And two days later we were at a DVC booth, the next day we were on a tour and we went home with all the paperwork; which we signed and sent back in our 10 day window! I :lovestruc my DH!

One of my finer moments came after drinking a Grey Goose slushie. I didn't realize that alcohol + heat + dehydration = bad! I guess I had not been drinking enough water as we were touring the WS. I then really did myself in by drinking a Grey Goose slushie which probably sucked out the last little bit of water I did have in my system. We made it to our ADR and Tutto. As we were being seated, it hit me. I started feeing REALLY bad. I started bawling. I couldn't stop. The poor waitress thought I was nutso or something. I was sobbing that I have now ruined my kids vacation. There was no way I was gonna be able to wak all the way back to our car. They would have to call an ambulance and completely embarrass my whole family. I couldn't eat because I felt so bad, but hubby kept pushing water. After about 6 glasses of water, I started feeling better. I had my meal boxed and took it with us. Not one of my finer moments.

Oh, dear. We've had a few finest moments on vacation. In fact, I think we have had at least one "family of the year" moment each trip, Disney or other. I want the "It's not vacation until someone's crying / I make someone cry" t-shirts!

Our first trip, the girls were 6 and 8. We were down for DH's work. He had to give 2 presentations, and was quite stressed out about it. The blowup happened in front of RnRC. We had measured DD6 and she was a solid 48" at home. When we went up to go on the ride however, she was just under the height. We were all frustrated about it, especially DH. I said I would just sit outside with DD6 he and DD8 could go. Well, DD8 decided she was afraid to go. That was the last straw. DH blew up yelling and stomped off to the exit. I was embarrassed and angry and followed him - we argued the whole way to the front of the park. He later apologized and we realized that the fun part of the trip had to come after the work part, not before for later trips.

Another major blowup was a few summers ago when the girls were 14 and 11. It was with DH's parents and brother's family. Well, the girls were being typical teenage sisters, arguing and bickering and fighting the whole trip. :furious: We finally got sick of it and LOCKED them out on the (11th floor!) balcony at BLT and told them they couldn't come back in until they worked it out. I feel bad for anyone in the vicinity that was trying to nap! They screamed and yelled at each other for a while and ended up staying out there well over an hour but they did come to an agreement and were much more cooperative for the rest of the trip. I guess I'm lucky that one of them didn't throw the other over the edge!

There have been other spats, usually brought on by stress, hunger and fatigue. Glad to see we aren't the only family who has a disney experience not seen on the commercials.

Though not a meltdown per se, my "unfinest" moment was in 2006, when we took my 2 boys to the MK for the first time. It was my DMom and I, along with the boys who were 3 and 1.5 years old at the time. We had no plan, I had not been to MK for years, and it was summer. We let them play at the little playground that used to be by the Winnie the Pooh ride and I caught my youngest drinking out of the little fountains in the ground. Although I was grossed out by it, I took him out of there and we went on with our day. Not soon after, I noticed he didn't seem to be feeling well, but I was so insistent that we would enjoy our time at Disney. At the hotel, we took them down to the baby pool where my son promptly threw up (not in the pool, luckily).

I continued in my denial, attempting to drag the poor guy around the grounds, keeping busy. When he only got worse, I realized that he had the full-out stomach flu. Luckily we live only 3.5 hours away, so we cut our trip short one night and drove back home, where the entire family managed to pass it around for nearly a month.

Worst Disney trip ever! Now every time I see those little sprinkler areas, I cringe. I tell my much older children now to stay away and if they insist on getting wet, to keep their mouths closed! ;)

and celebrating my parents wedding anniversary...well, after the second day, hubby called work (he works with his brother), only to find out his grandmother passed away. Hubby was ready to pack and fly home. Then our daughter (four at the time)..was complaining she wasn't feeling very well...turns out she was burning up with a high fever..and me trying to get it to come down..then hubby got it...let's just say, hubby was miserable...he wasn't happy and sure made it known he wasn't...I was trying to hold it together for my famiy...fun times!

My family, while older, still had a meltdown last september. On our last day mom didn't want to pack the laptop we brought and said everyone must take turns carrying it. Of course we picked this day to do WS at Epcot and it was HOT!! Needless to say everyone was pretty grumpy about holding a heavy, unnecessary laptop. Why she wouldn't put it in a locker I'll never know.

For some reason I laughed and laughed at this story. I just picture some grumbling family carrying a heavy laptop bag and the mom yelling at you not to say a word of complaint. :rotfl2:

DH and I were engaged at Disneyworld but not in the romantic way you would think. On our next to last day we hopped from AK to DHS to MK for Wishes. I had no interest in hopping, it was pouring rain. Wishes kept getting pushed back, CMs were saying they didn't know if it was going to be cancelled. I was shivering and wet and kept insisting to DH I wanted to leave and NOW. He was panicking because he had this expensive ring in his pocket, people kept bumping him, I was nagging him to leave, and so he just exploded and yelled at me let's go. He stormed ahead of me, I was irritated that he was irritated (and I wanted to be the only one irritated) so we left and got on the ferry. I tried to give him a hug and put my hand in his pocket for warmth, at which point he really panicked and shoved me back. (So I wouldn't find the ring.) So I started crying, and we went back to the hotel in silence. I actually did have a nice proposal the next day in front of our awesome hotel waterfall, but the proposal that didn't happen is a meltdown story for the ages.

I don't understand why "kids" or other "family members" are forced to ride rides or go on attractions that they are afraid of or do not want to ride. There are enough other things to do at Disney that you don't have to put people in that situation. .

Totally agree with the dining plan thing :thumbsup2 That table service meal is what helps us to relax and regroup. Aww getting into the air conditioning, sitting our tired legs down to a very nice meal is a great pick me up.

Agree 100%

Day 8 and final night of our trip...I had a complete meltdown outside of Liberty Tree Tavern. Last night blues+hormones+lost reservation+arguing kids=crying mom. My three kids 11,9 and 7 looked at me like had finally lost my mind. The look on their face was priceless. Good times, good times :rotfl:

I would have to say our "finest moment" is the WDW vacay that never was. We were supposed to go to WDW last February after a 2 year hiatus to do DCL. Everything was planned when the DH decided that he just HAD to go skiing. Seriously? Cold & snow instead of Mickey??? :duck: Well, after much back & forthing, I gave in. So we go skiing. If it could go wrong, it did. Re-directed flights, condo not ready when we got there a day late due to aforementioned flight, DH blew out his knee 1st time down the slopes, credit card # stolen, finally we go to Yellowstone for a snowmobile tour, the DS and I get charged by buffalo and we get snowbound in West Yellowstone by the blizzard that hit about an hour after our all day tour started. :scared1:

I told the DH that's what happens when you cancel and tick off the Mouse! Needless to say, we are headed to the World THIS February without fail!

Mine was telling my pouting teenage girls "This is DISNEY and if you don't start acting like you're having fun I will BEAT the fun out of you!". Truly stellar moment for mom there! :thumbsup2

That is just plain awesome. :lmao: And something my mother would say too.

Ours isn't in the "mad at the world" vein... It's worse.

We went to MK on our second to last day at the parks for dinner/fireworks after our "naptime" at our hotel.

I put naptime in quotes, because while the then not quite 2 year old daughter slept, and I rested and played on the computer, my wife decided to sample the growing collection of sweets that had amassed on our room table.

Then we left the resort, and got to the MK around 3. Somehow we ended up in the candy store on Main Street and DW bought a bag of Jelly Bellies. And ate just about the whole bag.

Dinner that evening was at the Crystal Palace... Buffet... with a sundae bar. (You probably know what's next) DW ate meatloaf and fried chicken and mashed potatoes and finished it off with a sundae the size of Pooh's hand.

Keep in mind that DW isn't a big woman... quite the opposite. But she's got a fiendish sweet tooth that sometimes overrides her better judgement, much like my enjoyment of beer. In fact, we're both pretty health conscious, so our typical meals are salad, grilled meat and a light pasta or baked potato. Which was nothing like what's served at the CP.

Somehow after dinner she got either more Jelly Bellies or cotton candy.. can't remember which, but she ate a bunch while watching the fireworks.

After the fireworks, it was closing time for the MK. We went out to our bus stop and it was ridiculously crowded. She was holding DD, who finally started to show signs of fatigue, and I was holding the stroller, a couple bags, my camera, and our backpack/kidstuffs bag. Naturally, some lady was nice enough to tell her pre-teen son to get up to let her sit with DD, and I stood while holding everything.

Then the bus started filling up. And more and more people came on the bus. It looked like a Japanese subway.

So for those keeping score, we've got

1. Sleeping 2 year old.
2. Dad loaded down with stuff.
3. Wife loaded up with candy and other foods she's not used to eating
4. An overloaded bus back to the CBR

Now as we all know, if you put a bunch of people in a small room, the temperature of that room will rise. And if that room happens to be a bus, and it's a somewhat muggy night, the bus gets uncomfortable, quickly.

And if you eat a bunch of candy and heavy greasy foods, and can sometimes be prone to a touch of motion sickness from time to time, and are on a hot crowded bus, you may not feel your best.

Like my wife did that night.

In fact, she felt so bad that she made a bit of a mess on the bus.

And no, this wasn't one of those messes that could be concealed with a sweater tied around the waist. It came out the way it went in, and it went all over the aforementioned overcrowded bus, and in her hair, and on the sleeping tot.

And because of the overcrowded bus and all the stuff I was carrying, all I could do was watch.

And to make things worse, we were the second to last stop at CBR.

So while there are plenty of stories about moms losing their cool with their kids, none of them involve actually vomiting on the kid in any way.

And THAT'S our "not our finest family moment".

I can't remember the number of times the kids were screamed at to get their butts in gear - had to see several more attractions before it was time to go! Could care less that the kids were hot and tired and couldn't walk no more. They kept saying it wasn't fun no more - can't believe how ungrateful they were. What's worse, the wife kept saying to slow down and give them a chance to rest - had to put HER in her place, too!!

No.....not me but this one family my son and I saw at Epcot! He was ranting and didn't care who saw/heard it! Some people just don't get the Magic......
