So it didn't seem like there was much scrapbooking talk today...was everyone busy with the April challenge?

I was busy at our new Mike's!! Grand opening with a 50% off coupon!!! Bought a xyron. Keep buying...now I need to start scrapping. Got 2 pages done.

Good for you!

I got one done. But that was only because I went to a CM crop party. I would have gotten more done, but for some reason she didn't provide any paper this time - except strips for borders & a few triangular pieces for corners.

It was kind of frustrating. Had I known she wanted us to bring our own supplies I would have. In the past she's provided everything except the pix & letter stickers. I must have missed something (I didn't get a card, just a call) because this time the other ladies even brought their own tape runners! At least I'll know for next time...

...but I'm not sure if I'll go. She's kind of funny about products other than CM. She says she doesn't have a problem with it, but she takes every opportunity to tell you how your stuff isn't lignin & acid free. It's a bit depressing.

Awwwhhh Deb, sorry you had a not so fun experience. I hosted my first CM class in my home on Friday. We had a blast and the rep (Sue) could not have been anymore accomodating! She had everything and anything we needed, wasn't too pushy, I found that some of the products really do just "sell themselves".
She is hosting a mini crop in her home next week, I'll be sure to ask about the paper. I would think that Paper being one of the Main elements of a page, is something you wouldn't forget to mention to your guests!

You know, Kathy, I'm so glad you post that you're having a CM class this week! Quite a while ago I stopped having any kind of demonstration at my home because people just wouldn't show up. It was embarassing to have someone come & then have no one else here but me.

However, I'd love to have a CM party - I'd really, really like to earn enough to get the cutting system! Anyway, I realized that the parties I've gone to recently the girls are kind of rotating who has them. At least a few of them have just "assumed" I'm part of the group & told me "when you come to mine I want you to see..." At the next one I'm going to see if they'll come to one here.

Just a quick FYI. If you're going to a CM "Home Class", the consultant will supply all but photos. That's covered in your class fee. For a crop, the fee mostly covers the facility, snacks or prizes. Some consultants will put out the newest pack of paper for you to try or something like that, but the cost of tape and paper and such are not usually included. Tools are always accessible, though.

However, if the CMC has supplied this stuff in the past, she should have made you more aware. SOrry that you didn't have a better time!

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't have a good time. I always enjoy this group of ladies. I was just taken aback at the "change" in routine last night. I agree she should have made it clear about needing to bring paper & adhesives...but maybe she did to the hostess & those who got cards.

The hostess this time was DDIL's sister who is a senior in high school. DDIL "reminded" me about the date for the party one day last week. She may have assumed I got a card too.

I realized that a class has a fee & one wasn't charged. It was only because this was the 3rd party with this CMC & at the others she had provided much larger bags of paper "scraps" for us to use. I was just a bit bummed because I'd taken an entire roll of film & could have used the time (and her tools ) to do a bunch more if I'd brought paper. I just mooched DDIL's adhesive, but come to think of it she didn't bring paper either.

My nose was just out of joint this morning I think. (hormones?) I made the mistake of taking a pizza box (heavy, corrugated kind) from a fundraiser DD had done to give to DDIL. She saw me take the page I'd brought along (to do the blank, back page) & I guess that's what started the "acid free" thing. You see, at the last party I'd told her I was using a pizza box to keep my pages that were laid out but waiting additional items before finishing. I should have kept my mouth shut but I made sure no one else was within hearing range when I said it.

Deb - You didn't get what you thought you would. I understand your disappointment. This is a wonderful place to vent. I'm still a little confused on what kind of function you were going to. With a new CMC, she's probably figuring it out herself.

If you had asked me my thoughts about the pizza box, I may have expressed a concern (just because I could not guarantee you it was safe) and suggested a fairly inexpensive remedy ($4) to be extra sure your stuff was safe. (I'm really anal about these things, though) However, I try to give my opinion on these things only when asked. Maybe if she says anything again, and you can get her aside for a moment, let her know that she could be turning people off by her actions.

It really bums me out when people do this. No one likes to be singled out. Hopefully, she'll get comfortable with things and it will get better.

Sorry if I gave you way more than you wanted. I try to work extra hard to not be a CM natzi and CM is trying to get all CMCs to realize this too. This just hit a sore spot. I'll get off of my soap box now.

Actually, I appreciate your response! I have to admit that this girl seems to be taking CM Natzi lessons. She's not that bad, really, it's just that she was much more flexible in December! She openly admitted that she mixed & matched her stuff back then.

I'm really glad you clarified the types of events earlier! I would have hated for someone to get the wrong idea of what to expect after reading my post. I'd like to know what she called that event also. I know she holds crops at her house - it's in her newsletter with the fee listed. The last time I got a card she had checked the 2nd option (no fee) and wrote in to bring photos for a crop night.

And now you have me curious! What is the $4 option to help protect stuff in the box? My original intention was only to keep the stuff in the for a couple days to a week, but it's turned out to be longer than that while I get caught up in swaps & other projects.

You can get a gift box for an album. That will fit 12 x 12 pages and it photo safe. It's CM's original "Power Layout" system. PL started as using pages and the gift box, instead of the plastic box and guides there are now. I really like the current system, but the gift box does the same thing. It's not in the catalog, but it is available to her.

Glad I didn't bore you to death! We do have to follow some rules as to what we're allowed to show while we're having a CM event, however, CM does not condone putting down non-CM products. Maybe she needs to go through her training materials again.

I hope she comes around for you! It sounds like you are taking it in stride and had fun anyway.
