I apolgoize if this has been posted before, but I couldn't seem to find a thread on this topic.

Question about this situation: in line to meet a character, when the end of the night (or shift) rolls around, and the character leaves. My question: what do you guys tell the little ones about this? If it were Mickey or Minnie... how do you break the news that they're not going to meet Mickey?

Thanks for any advice!

There are a few different situations that can happen.

If you are in a line for a specific character, the CMs accompanying the character will "close the line" at some point. And the character will not leave until they have greeted everyone that was in the line prior to it "closing".

You may be in a line where the character will "need to take a break". It's really one CM leaving and another one coming back as the same character. They will announce that the character will be back in x minutes. If you still want to see the character, you wait in line until they return.

If you are in line for a group of characters, like at Toontown Hall of Fame, characters may sub out. Say you are in line for the fairies and the CM tells you Tink, Rosetta, and Fawn are greeting. These can change every 1/2 hour. So by the time you get up there, it may be Tink (who is always there), Silvermist, and Fawn.

Reading back, I guess I didn't answer your specific question. But the situation you are describing really shouldn't happen. If the line is closed, you won't be allowed to join it. If the character leaves to take a break, reassure your little one that the character will come back. I guess the biggest problem would be if your child really wants to meet one character in a group, like Silvermist, and she's not there by the time you reach the front. In that case, prepare your child before you even join the line. Say "You will get to meet some of the fairies, but it may not be Silvermist. Are you okay with that?"

I agree, in my experience we have always been told when a line is "closed" and the character is leaving. Toon Town is a great spot because if a character leavs another one is there pretty quickly. I prefer the indoor ones like that. There is a Buzz/Woody one in HS that is also like that and we get absolutely awesome pictures there! For some reason the ones we take at the Pooh and friends greeting station in AK always come out a bit yucky :( Plus we use the waiting time indoors to cool off, calm down, etc

Thanks!

When I read the respones, I kind of a had 'No Duh!' moment; I guess it's just been a long time since the last time a line was closed, or characters rotated when I was there.

My next trip is stll a few months away, but its my first trip taking youger kids (my neices). Thanks for your responses! Much appreciated.

I tell mine they needed to take a potty break or, the costumed ones, that they need to take a break as its hot...

never had issues. We went last week and they said they'd return in 20 minutes so we waited in the area and was in line first.
