We decided to go to hawaii this year instead of our annual vacation to WDW. I just can't get excited about it. I am suppose to be doing research on that trip now and look were i am. what's wrong with me?

Hawaii was beautiful. On Maui we went out in a big boat with others to snorkle around an old underwater volcano and the fish and sights were amazing. Do that if you can. Don't forget motion sickness meds.

Hawaii is absolutely beautiful -- you will love it! I bet once you start researching you'll get excited about it.

Went in Dec 2002 for 2 weeks and turned around going back in Oct 2003 for 2 weeks. Absolutely beautiful, relaxed and the air quality is :thumbsup2.

Stayed in Waikiki both times and island hopped when we wanted to.

DH has never been. My plan is to get him there on an anniversay trip so he can finally understand why I would love to retire there or at least spend the winters.

PS - if memory serves me correctly, Disney is in the process of building a property there

I Love WDW the more I go the more I want to go back more often. However, Hawaii is on my bucket list. Do a search for some photos, see if there are online groups similar to this one for Hawaii fanatics. Once you start planning you will get excited. I am a little jealous even!

Isnt there a Disney resort in Hawaii? Maybe you can stay there while you get to do some amazing stuff in Hawaii.

We spent 10 days in Hawaii last October, two on Oahu and 8 days on Maui. Nice, very nice. Can't compare to WDW, as it's just different. And very expensive!:)

I love Hawaii....I am a big Disney fan as well, don't get me wrong, but I would definitely give up a trip to WDW for a trip to Hawaii again!

I went when I was 7 and then again for my honeymoon. It was fantastic. For our honeymood, we went to Oahu first for a few days as DH is a big history buff and we had to go to Pearl Harbor (I'd been the last time). We honestly didn't like Oahu that much, it was just another big city. One of the days there, we took a plane to the Big Island to tour around the island and go to Volcano National Park. Nice, but long time in a bus/van with the tour.

Then, we flew to Maui for 8 days. THAT is Hawaii to me. Relaxing and beautiful. We stayed at Kapalua Bay and the snorkeling off the hotels' beach was even better than the snorkeling off Molokini that we did. We also did the road to Hana and watched the sun rise on Haleakala. Everything was amazing.

We got the Entertainment Book for Hawaii and that saved us about $100 or more. We had booked a sunset dinner cruise and then rebooked with the coupon from the book as it was BOGO (the cruise was about $65 per person back in 1996), we also used it for a couple of dinners in Lahaina.

Start checking out Hawaii and you will be exicted to go. If not, send me your ticket and I'll go and report back to you. :lmao:

Love, love love Hawaii. Been three times and can't wait to go back!!!
There is so much to do and see. My ds keeps asking if we can go back.

I think it is hard to not get excited about Hawaii, but that is just me. My family is contemplating the same path. I really wanted to do 2-3 weeks in Hawaii this summer, but I am about passing out when I figure what this will cost. For awhile I was thinking that we would just forget it, and do a summer vacation within driving distance and WDW in Oct instead, but now I am back to wanting to pull this Hawaii trip together.

I am thinking 5 nights on Waikiki in Oahu and 9 nights in Poipu Beach in Kauai, but I can't seem to get the cost under $9400 for the three of us, which is an obscene amount of money. We don't have frequent flyer miles we can use, so the airfare alone is going to be between $2000-$2400. I have found a couple of condos to rent through VRBO, for reasonable rates. What is expensive is the excursions we want to do, and eating out (even though we will likely do all breakfasts in the condo, make a few picnic lunches, and a few dinners in the condo). When I think of what else I could do with $9500, it makes this a hard trip to swallow. I could renovate my last bathroom that needs renovating for that amount of money!

You will love Hawaii.... even though it is nothing like Disney. I went twice when I was in my twenties and have such wonderful memories. Planning on going for my big 5-0 in a few years. YEs, I love my disney, but skipping a year for Hawaii would not be a huge sacrifice. You are going to be pleasantly surprised. :cloud9:

Love Hawaii - just don't like the long flight, I can be in Disney in 2 hours as oppose to a 11 hour flight! I've been twice to three islands and would love to go back it's one of those places I feel you need longer than a week to visit to make it worthwhile because of the flight. There is so much to do:cutie:

It's not open yet - it's on Oahu the new Disney Vacation Club Resort. Looking forward to that so I can stay there!

Hawaii can be lots of fun. I had the pleasure of living there for 6 months on a work assignment. And my sister lived there for about 10 years so I got to visit frequently. Make sure you visit the Dole plantation if you go to Oahu as well as Hanauma Bay and snorkle with the fish. There is some great coral reefs, big old sea turtles etc. Whale watching tours are fun as well as of course Pearl Harbor. Pomaika`i and I hope you enjoy it.

We have been twice to maui and would no doubt rather go to Hawaii than disney! It is magical!!!!We do Disney often both land and world and would be thrilled to be going back to Maui. Tons to do there. You must love the water though as much of the stuff we do is water related. Kayaking with dolphins, snorkeling, boat trips and the road to hana are all wonderful. Have fun and let us know after you come back if you changed your mind!
