Not getting the "Warm and Fuzzy" about the Treehouse Villas

Sorry to sound like a disgruntled DVC member but, when they added the Grandstand to SSR the vast majority of people thought that Saratoga Springs was "too big" and that the maximum capacity made it impossible to use the theme pool or to get breakfast at the very limited seating of the Artists Palate. Even the 2 quiet pools and the 1 at Grandstand are packed to the gills during busy months.

All the write ups indicate that the occupants of the THV will use the same facilities as the rest of SSR. Well I think it is time that DVC does some expansion on the services as well as the accommodations. DVC boasts that SSR is the "largest DVC Property to date". Well they didn't add anything extra other than more rooms!

Don't get me wrong I am a proud SSR owner and we love to stay at our home resort over any other, BUT DVC indicates only that they are building a pool for the THV. How about another restaurant? When the Grandstand opened they boasted about the pool bar which I should point out was closed the entire time we were at SSR for a 20 day stay last Summer.

This is just a little perspective on the impact that 60 more units will have. I have read LOTS of threads here on SSR busses being "packed" or standing room only. Will the THV get their own bus, or how about their own water shuttle. We waited at the boat dock while 5 went by at maximum capacity to go to DTD. None of these issues have been mentioned, but all of these complaints have been listed multiple times on this board!

DVC plans on adding 60 units at 9 people a unit, that 540 more people staying at SSR, at this rate we will need a fast pass for the water slide at High Rocks Pool!!!!

Anyone else feel this way????

I don't think THV was ever intended to appeal to the onsite-dining, theme pool guests. Folks who want that stuff will just stay in the main part of SSR.

I think THV will be very popular, but not with people who fly in, DME to the resort, bus everywhere, eat every meal onsite, and spend lots of time in their resort's theme pool. That's just not the THV demographic at all.

Each resort has its own pro's and con's -- and they vary, depending on who you talk to. Truth is, they're all great but not all great in the same way. THV will be another option.

If it helps your numbers ... we are very much looking forward to booking a treehouse unit ... but will likely never put more than 4 into the space. I can't imagine asking 7 people to share that 2nd bathroom??

For Spring Break, a THV villa could probably hold 19 or so, and I'd be amazed if that doesn't become an issue.

But for our vacations, I agree with you. I can see six comfortably, but not much more than that. First of all, everybody needs a real bed, and there are only six real bed spots.

Even more important, there is a finite capacity for one bathroom, no matter how large. Nine people into two bathrooms doesn't compute for me.

I think you bring up an excellent point, Really Goofy Daddy. I'm with you, I love our resort, too. :goodvibes However, when my SIL/BIL (who are OKW owners and have been since 95) stayed at SSR, the words out of their mouths were the units were too small (which I expected), and there were too many people for the facilities.

Personally, I didn't feel it was "over-crowded." It was spring break, and I expected crowded. I was actually surprised it didn't feel more crowded than what it was. However, you add another 360 people (6 per room) to the workout facilities, main pool, AP, etc., and yes, it will make a difference.

As JimMIA mentioned, I think the demographics may be different, but we will be the atypical visitors. My son's already chomping at the bit to stay, and we will eat out almost every day. We will take advantage of the main facilities. The only thing about the THVs is, where will people go? Will they go to Olivia's or the burger joint at OKW, AP or Turf Club at SSR, or will they hop a boat to DTD? Because of location, it may end up that people venture out more than they would if they were staying at the Springs, let's say.

Anyway, I think your question is valid, and I hope that Disney and the developers are considering options. However, I think if they were adding more to the resort (other than what's been announced), we would have heard about it by now.

We are excited about THV and really don't use the resort pool that much or eat at the quick serve at the hotel. We tend to cook in our room and if we are eating out it is somewhere else. We are only staying at THV because we are having a family gathering otherwise...we wouldn't because there are just three of us. I too am wondering what the demographic is.

You have to put it in perspective. Its only 60 units. It is a long walk to Artist Pallet and the main pools. The THV will have its own pool area.

I think the biggest impact will be with the buses serving SSR, adding one more stop.

When we stayed at the Treehouses many years ago - we rented golf carts to get around on. We would ride it through the golf course to the restaurants, which had plugs where you could charge it. So maybe that option will be available for people staying at the treehouses.

I was wondering the same thing. Originally SSR didn't have a sit-down restaurant. Kinda shows the thinking that went into the original design of it. I don't have a problem owning the at "the biggest DVC to date" but it needs to have the amenities and bus service to back it up.

Sorry was afraid when TV were first announced that they would be with OKW. that was before I sold Okw.

these things will need more maintence than the regular SSR - so they really need to be with the biggest resort - so their extra maintence won't be a big issue.

now how you feel - when the selling when to BWV from OKW - we were promised that members would get to pick how the buildings were done. Guess what instead of that - DVC just build more buildings to sell. No member I talked to voted for that.

SSR definitely needs another restuarant - but NOT in that same building. How about one in Carousel or Paddock area?

of course the sit down restuarant is great - you hardily ever have to wait - and it has out door seating as well as inside.
