Hello, I'm tossing the idea around of not getting off the ship in Falmouth on our upcoming cruise. Can this be done? If so, will there still be activities (movies, kids clubs, etc) to enjoy on the ship on port days?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm a cruise newbie.

Yeah, it can actually be really fun. Less crowded at the pools, only the hours may be shorter. Less crowds at food, etc. Just know the shopping areas/kiosk are closed while in port. They still do activities like towel folding, tastings, etc.

Of course it can be done. There's no requirement that you exit the ship at any port.

yes, there will be activities, and much lower crowds on deck and in pools and restaurants. Only big difference is that the shops will be closed while in port. You also might see additional maintenance taking place.

If we have already been to a port we rarely get off. No lines for the slides, movies, just hanging out in deck. We love it.

We have done this many times at ports we have already seen.
Sometimes, we just get off the ship, shop In the port and wander back when we want to. Sometimes we don't even leave the ship at CC. :) Super quiet pool, Aquaduck and definitely relaxed.

But if there is an excursion that we want to do, we definitely book it and pick a time that we can still have some quiet on the ship if available.

We plan on doing the same thing.

This was my one big hold-up in changing back to the Wonder from the Fantasy for Presidents' Week - I have not done the Western itinerary yet but am booked on the Celebrity Edge for Pres Week 2019 which is doing a Western. It would be awesome to stay on and explore the ship, but... I did switch, so I will just take advantage of every moment on board that I can. I will likely dart off in Key West to get some gluten-free Key Lime pie and then play on the ship that day. Possibly just stay on in Falmouth depending on the excursions since it seems so unpopular and iffy.

I am picturing in my head an announcement, "It is now 10 AM, please leave the ship. You can come back at 3 PM" and security escorting people off the ship so they can clean it.

As has been said, of course you can stay on the ship at any of the ports. That said though, if you have never been to a place I don't know why you would. Even if just to get a few pictures, why go to a brand new land and never even set foot on it?

I've also had days where I've stayed on ship at the pool, with just a quick break to run into the port drink a few $1 coronas and then get back to the pool without having to spend 8 times that amount for 1 drink.

We've never done it before but on our upcoming Dream cruise (which really amounts to 2 full days on board) we might do it for both Nassau and CC. I know that many people do not like Nassau and/or Falmouth and stay on the ship so I'm wondering if it's really SO much less crowded...especially the pool, which can barely handle 20 people anyway. :sad2:

We loved staying on the ship when we were docked in Falmouth as nothing was of interest in regards to excursions (well that didnt take along time to get to). We walked maybe around the shops in port for like half hour then hopped back on the ship and went and saw a movie, then let our youngest play in the splash area. It was great and not crowded at all

Me getting off the ship is unusual. My wife rarely gets off the ship either. I'm a little more likely to do so, ultimately, but that's just so I can have a beer and then buy some rum. I like when everybody goes ashore because i get my resort hotel to myself.

As others have said, absolutely possible. There will still be plenty to do but not as many people doing it.

That being said there are some nice resorts that offer day passes that I would suggest looking into as well. Resort for a Day.com (for example) sells day passes (and provides transportation to/from) to Jewel at Runaway Bay. It's great for just adults, has an awesome water park for kids and families, a great buffet and was short enough drive that it didnt take forever but long enough to see "some" of the countryside.

Alot of time newer cruises don't realize how many opportunities there are for excursions or activities that are available by not booking through the cruise line.

There are many things to do onboard as PPs have mentioned. Usually there are fewer people participating. So shorter lines :) It's your vacation so if you have no desire to leave the ship then stay onboard and enjoy :) A quiet ship is one of my favorite things...in a month when everyone else is off to Paris or DDay beaches I'm planning on doing a Kevin (from Home Alone) and running around the ship (figuratively) like a silly woman :)

Are Kids clubs are open during all port stops?

One will be open for drop off from all ashore time.
One will be in open house from around 9 until around all aboard time.
They may switch over at some point and all kids checked in will be transitioned to the space for drop off.

Edge and vibe may open a little later and maybe in open house for a large proportion of it.

Yes, and yes

But it should be said (and I don't THINK it has yet on this thread) that there won't be as MANY planned ship activities as on a sea day, and that on certain days, the pool and the Aqua Duck may not open until late morning.

I know a lot of people that say their favorite times on the ships have been while in port, because it's so dead!
