I'n not a candidate for lasik and decided against the contacts that reshape your eyes while you sleep, since I would still need glasses for close vision. But I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with bifocal contacts or knew someone who did. I'd love to hear first hand how they work for others:D

I've had bifocal contacts for years. :) I'm actually only nearsighted but when I read if I read through the vision correction part of my contact lenses it causes problems for my eyes. Hence around the outside edge of my contacts it is CLEAR, with no vision correction...so if I look down to read I am doing so through that part of the lens.

It was really a very quick adjustment for me. And now I know when I DO need the farsightedness correction as well...it's only a matter of time  ...I'll be able to adjust to that as well.

Good luck! :)

Thanks WMMichelle!
That gives me great hope................reading a newspaper without needing 5 ft arms and being able to thread a needle:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
There is hope!

I tried several different brands of bifocal contacts, but just couldn't get the right "fit." Either my distance vision was good, and my near vision was off or vice versa. I went with mono vision instead. I wear a contact in my right (dominant) eye for distance and a different power contact in my left eye for close. It's not perfect, (my vision with my glasses is the best) but I'm just not ready to give up my contacts yet!

My doctor prescribed the monovision contacts (I wear the gas perm kind) when I started having the age-related problem of not being able to see up close.

Like Mary, it's not perfect, but I can look up numbers in the phone book again!

I'm dying to find out if I'm a candidate for lasik, but I'd have to wear glasses only, for a month before the consultation, and I'm too darn vain! I detest my glasses!

I wore monovision contacts (gas perms) for about 8 years. They were great - one eye for near and one for far. It was easy adjusting. However, got to a point where they just weren't working, so I switched to progressive lenses in glasses full time. They work great and I don't miss the contacts. I wore regular contacts (hard and gas perms) for about 25 years.

I wear a focus daily contact and I LOVE them. I hated wearing my glasses. These are the best things I"ve come across.

I have been wearing bifocal contact lens for about 5 years and
I can tell you they are great. It is like having young eyes again!!
I started out wearing the Acuvue bifocals lens, then just recently
tried the new multifocal lens by bausch and lomb. They are great.
Wouldn't trade them for the world!! They are very comfortable
and easy to wear. I find that I don't have to "give up" clear distance or close up for reading. My contacts adjusts easily to
distance or closeness for reading. Try them I am sure you will
love them....
