Not finding what I want

I have finally narrowed down what I want, CCV, October use year, 75-100 points. The problem is, there’s hardly any contracts out there! I have been watching closely for a month, and currently there is only one contract to even consider, but it has barely any 2022 points available (which I was hoping to get at least a decent amount of).

Am I being too picky? Should I try for a different resort even though its not my #1? The thought of spending a good chunk of money and not getting the resort I truly want the most is not high on my list.
Maybe I am overthinking this one?
Hi Simba06....It appears that your only issue is 2022 pts...If that is true, then with all due respect, yes, you are overthinking...buy the place you want...good luck!

October is the 2nd least common UY for CCV but adding September and especially August would greatly improve your chances as August is one of the most common ones.

If you’re mostly traveling at thanksgiving you definitely don’t want to buy a different resort than the one you want to stay at.

Best of luck.

If our spring break is always last week of march/first week of april, would an august use year be potentially risky if we needed to cancel a spring break trip?

If you late cancel it, and it’s in April, yes, there is risk, Is that likely?

Also with the amount of points you’re purchasing, are you anticipating being able to go at both thanksgiving and spring break?

I would like to say its not likely, but life has shown it can be unpredictable and I would rather not put myself in a tricky situation if I didn’t need to.

We are planning on buying Poly2 points when they go on sale for spring break trips, and I’d rather have only one use year.

I second this. CC is already going to be more difficult compared to some other larger resorts so there are going to be fewer opportunities, so it may be over complicating to limit to contracts with 2022 points. I totally get why you want 20222, but if it may be too limiting when also limiting use year and number of points at a smaller resort.

Currently seeing two 75 point September contacts and one 100 point October contract.

I'd rate that little to no risk time for an August UY. March 31st is the banking deadline for an August UY. For late March trip you'd need to be cancelling in Feb iin order for the points to not go into holding. For an April trip you'd need to be cancelling in March, more than 30 days in advance of check in, for the points to not go into holding. So either you'd be cancelling in time to still bank or the points would be in holding anyway and need to be used by the end of the UY. It won't give a lot of time to use the points but availability in summer to rent them out or re-book a trip is pretty good.

I appreciate the insight. Just afraid to make a mistake spending this much money!

I know what you mean…. I’ve been looking for my next contract and struggling to find it… I’m convinced eventually something will pop up… There’s also the option to just buy an initial 25 point contract and then buy more direct. I would recommend same use year. I’m not interested in having to deal with multiple use years…

Agree with @KAT4DISNEY. If you don't cancel at least 31 days prior to check in, the points go into holding status and can't be banked, anyway. August may not be a "perfect" use year, but it will work. If the other contract attributes work for you, no need to be afraid of an August use year for March/April travel.

Good luck with your search.

In order to avoid holding, you have to cancel at least 31 days in advance, so with an August UY, you'd need to cancel in February/March anyway.

Any time you cancel less than 31 days in advance....so last minute cancels... those points will be in holding status which means they expire end of UY and can only be used 60 days or less in advance.

For example, even if you booked a trip in September with an Aug UY, and canceled a week out, those points would be restricted vis holding.

Use year doesn't seem to matter a whole lot to us, since we've changed when we visit 3 times since we bought in 2014.
But all of our contracts are the same use year.
We bought in 2003, and 20 years later our vacations times have changed. We have one UY. We’ve made it work. We have lost a few points over the years, I don’t think even 20 is that total.

I see a new 100 point CCV contract right now. August UY but no 2022 points.

The only way to get what you want is either looking frequently at the broker sites or work with them and ask for what you want.

Based on all the advice here, I just put in an offer on a contract that's everything I'm looking for except the ideal UY. It was a lowball offer, so we'll see it where it goes.
