Not excited by FD...

This is the 4th year in a row that we've gone to WDW in late Jan... we have always received HUGE room discounts-- we typically save at least $1500+. And this year all we are getting thus far is free dining? BOO. Still keeping fingers crossed that a REAL discount will come out too...

Well look at this way, you could be paying rack rate with no discount like some people or you could stay off-site.

My DD has a food allergy, and we bring food in for her (and some for us as well), so FD is somewhat wasted. And most of our dining reservations are for places requiring 2 TS credits. It's just extremely disappointing when historically we have such great discounts...

I wouldn't give up hope on it yet. Before FD I had a pin for 30% rooms, so I'm sure the discounts are out there and who knows what we'll see thus far. I hope something turns up for you.

Yup! I had registered on the site, gotten the dvds and maps, and saved things there, but it wasn't until I called to ask if I had a pin that I got one in my email not even a week later. It seemed like really suspicious timing...

It was titled "Disney Resort pics and more, _____ Family!" and it was only dates for December 1-22, but here's to hoping they have one in January for you!

I had actually thought about changing to FD this morning...coming in 10/22-10/29 and we had originally booked with a 35% pin code (which originally, I thought wasn't that great until I ran the numbers for FD). We would have had to change our current ressies to a room only for the 22nd and the FD for the rest of the week. I couldn't get my current resort on FD (staying at BC) so we ran numbers for a couple of other deluxes and it didn't make sense. As it stands now with our pin code, we're only paying $419 for our DP for 8 days (2 adults & 2 teens) and in order to switch to FD, we'd have to pay rack rate the first night and meals OOP for the 1st night along with a 1-day tix - the savings gap closed dramatically and we were only saving a little over $100 - the savings wasn't worth the hassle for us & we would have had to switch resorts completely, which I really didn't want to do. Now, I could have downgraded to a moderate with the above scenario and could have saved a great deal but I had to look at it this way: This will be the last time we can go in the Fall for a very long time as my oldest will be in college next year. I budgeted for the BC, have my money already set aside and am really looking forward to staying there.

What are the chances of a discount January 1-7th? It looks like they have usually had discounts starting 1/1 in the past. Will it be really busy that week after the 2nd?

March 31 was a free dining date and that is the week before Easter. I'm surprised they would give a discount that week but not the first week of the year. Will Marathon week make that much difference in crowds?

As far as discounts the 1-7. I doubt we'll see anything as that's leading into marathon weekend.

A room discount would help us more for what we have booked, but I knocked nearly 1000 off our vacation this morning by having the CM put the free dining on - we had the DDP anyway, so it's 1000 for airfare at this point, which is about what it'll cost!

The Cm I talked to was trying to tell me that FD usually nets out more than room discount, as she was looking up our reservation and then said "OH...Poly, club level, TPV...yeah you want the room!" No PIN for us as of yet..but my fingers are crossed. The FD certainly helped make the money portion a little less painful!
