I am seriously thinking about relocating to Australia, It's been about 14 years since I have been there and have a few questions.

I noticed that the unemployment rate is pretty low, its under 5%. My question is even with 5% unemployment what are the chances of landing a entry level job? Not really fussy about what the job is, I have quite a lot of management experience here in the US that I am sure given time I could put to use, I'm not afraid to start at the bottom and work my way up.

I am specifically looking for around Tasmania and Victoria. Also has anyone had any experience moving a partial household from the US to Australia? any advice or suggestions, obviously its probably more cost effective to sell the majority of household goods and repurchase down there, however there are just some things I cant and wont part with that would need moved.

Our children are 6 and 12, I don't believe they would have too much trouble adjusting to things. So is there any advice, suggestions or pointers that anyone would care to share?

there are plenty of Jobs for Management type people in Victoria

My wife is in a upper management position at a leading university in victoria (manages research budget among other things hands out around 120 million annually)
she was offered a 100k job just the other week by a leading auditing firm
she knocked it back as she has other corporate plans and doesnt want to be an auditor because she said they are scum :rotfl2:
she is constantly being offered jobs from both onsite and off as she is well known among the buisness community to be very talented and skilled

if you are good at what you do you will not struggle to find work in Australia

Good luck

For employment options, have you looked at Seek.com? You might want to consider taking a look at the current positions vacant based on your existing work experience and seeing how it stacks up.

For household equipment, things are much more expensive to buy here than in the US. But Australia electricity runs off 220 - 240V; so if you bring US electronics, you're going to need a converter.

Good luck with the decision.

When we emigrated (many years ago) we had a shipping container of household goods. It took a few months to clear customs after it finally arrived. Make sure that you are able to live without anything you ship for an extended period of time.
You also will need to look into your ability to work legally here. You may be able to get basic assistance from the websites of the firms who specialize in this area. Try "Stirling Henry" to start with.

We just moved to Canberra from the US :thumbsup2

We shipped our household items over (I had a few items my grandfather made I did not want to part with). It was a hassle and they took twice as long as they stated, but in the end I am very happy we did. We shipped most household items, but few electronics (and only ones were knew were duel voltage). We repurchased all of our major appliances.

One we arrived, I found the job market to be much different then I expected! My husband has management experience, but no formal bachelors degree, so no credit was given to much of his experience. Also, we are here on a visa so he is not eligible for many of the jobs offered (they require permanent residency or citizenship). We are now trying to apply for residency and I wish we had a few leads to follow (if anyone had advice about residency ....).

I would do a little more research and see you if are eligible for migration under the skills list through the department of immigration.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help at all :goodvibes
