Warning Folks -- this is not for the faint at heart......
I am still slowly working on getting back on track folks. I will get there --- honest. But in the meantime --- another hurdle I'm facing.
When I had my abdominal hysterectomy on 7/18 my mouth was 'injured' by the tube that they put down your throat when you are 'under'. I felt it while in the hospital but the pain didn't start until about a week post op --- after I stopped the pain meds for the surgery. I went to the dentist and they checked out my teeth -- all looked well. Dentist told me to rinse with warm salt water, start amoxicillan and take ibuprophen as needed. I had a small cut on the lower right hand side just under the inside of the teeth area at the gum where the bone is. I did this for another week and a half and it was not helping. The pain was still quite bad whenever I ate anything --- even though I was chewing on the 'good' side. I went back to the dentist friday and everything checked out good again and I was referred to an oral surgeon.
Today I seen the oral surgeon. He believes that a small fragment of my bone under the gum tissue may have broke during the injury. He said this is common but usually corrects itself. It is still inflamed even though the gum has healed. I've been given a prescription steroid rinse to use 4 times a day to try and remove the inflamation so healing will take place. But get this.....
I go back the last monday of the month [after vacation] to be rechecked. If it is still very painful they will numb that side of my mouth, lift up the gums to reveal the bone and sand off the bone to make is smooth again then replace the gum --- all while I am numb but still awake! OMG --- I just cannot imagine having to get that done!!!
So I am hoping beyond hope that this prescription rinse does the job!
