Ex-cellent. Mwa ha ha. ;)

Oh, gosh. :rotfl2: Can you believe it took me a moment to get that? Of course, once I did, my mind SO went there.

I think one of the best things in general about this trip was discovering that this year, my son wasn't just along for the ride. I've never been able to understand the concept of not bringing your children to Disney because they're too young. Quite frankly, I'm selfish that way. If my DH and I want to go to Disney on vacation, then the little nugget is coming with us, regardless of age. We'll have a good time, they'll have a good time. Usually. ;) As we all know, it does depend on the age, and let me tell you, four years old is something magical.

He was into it.

Really, really into it, and game for almost anything. That boy would grab a map and tell us where we needed to go! :rotfl2:

Case in point.

So, one of the best feelings EVER was walking into Epcot, talking one look at Spaceship Earth, seeing a relatively short line and saying to our son, "Hey...do you want to go on this?"

And him saying, "YEAH!!!"

WOO HOO!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

I did an internal happy dance, let me tell you. So on to Spaceship Earth we went, and a good time was had by all!

Now we had few goals this evening. One was to get DS on the ride in Mexico with Donald, the other was to hear BBVDD play.

I'll tell you right now, we did both. And the way we did it is the way that I love to vacation. We went on two rides that night, Spaceship Earth and our "Donald ride," as my DS calls it. I got to hear two songs by BBVDD before my DS got a little antsy and wanted to find more things to play with.

Because that's what we did. After we rode Spaceship Earth, and DS found Mexico on the map, and herded us there, we let him lead us. We had the stroller, but he rarely used it. We stopped wherever he wanted, we let him run around and play and it was wonderful. It's amazing the type of moments you'll have when you let your child run the show for a little bit.

My favorite picture of my son, from the whole trip, is from this night. It's when we stopped at the Outpost and started playing the drums. All of us. It was such a good time. Of course, I had my camera at the ready, so after I had my fun, I was busy snapping away, pictures of my boys.

Before that, we'd taken a wonderful shot of the three of us with the WS lagoon and the countries as a backdrop, somewhere in between Mexico and Norway. It's a lovely family photo, and one of the reasons I love photopass so much. It was a random place, I wasn't expecting a photographer to be there, and there you go. Another favorite picture of mine of the three of us.

And in Mexico, we happened to meet this guy...

you know, for being my son's favorite, you'd think he'd be all keyed up to see him, but no! :lmao: My little nugget is still shy of characters, so it was a bit of a struggle this trip. We don't push him, but that didn't stop me from getting my picture taken! There's a nice one of my husband and I with Donald as well. :thumbsup2

I know I'm jumping all over the place here, but these are just my random, favorite memories from that evening.

And it had only just begun. :goodvibes

Next Chapter

Nothing beats a 4 year old and a map.

Nothing.

In the world.

thanks for bringing back some pretty happy memories of my own!

I love this!! One of my favorite visions of our October trip was watching my 8 year old guide us around AK with the map in hand. There's something magical about knowing that they are choosing what they actually want to do rather than just being hauled around.

My kids loved those drums too!

Goodness! It sounds like such a wonderful, magical night :cloud9:

Johnny Depp was voted People's Sexiest Man Alive for 2009.

Figured you would need to be one of the first people to have this bit of information!

I believe there should be a celebration! :)

Love it!! I'm so glad you were able to let DS enjoy Disney his way!! I'm sure he has so many great memories from being able to do that!!! YAY!!! I am totally okay with your randomness...its awesome!!!! It's all about the great memories and that is what you have shared with us!!

Fantastic update!

I am not sure why I almost missed it? :confused3 Maybe because I don't know what day it is?

I just love that you are letting him run the show!

Ellie will be 4 when we go in .... 27? days! I hope she gets into it, too!

I love your favorite random moments from your first night, and I can definitely feel the relaxing nature of the entire evening. DS with the map is cracking me up! I can just picture him herding you all straight to Mexico! :lmao:

We stopped wherever he wanted, we let him run around and play and it was wonderful. It's amazing the type of moments you'll have when you let your child run the show for a little bit.

I love touring this way too! Our DS is only 2, but most of them when he spots something, we'll stop, let him look/experience, etc. I can't count the number of times we have stopped to watch ducks.

Well, Henry watches the ducks. I watch Henry. :lovestruc Watching their eyes light up, smiles stretch across their faces, shrieks of joy and laughter...that is the best part of vacation! :goodvibes

I just happened upon your TR today, and I want you to know that I'm loving every minute of it! It's like you've opened up your thoughts for us--what a great way to write a TR! :goodvibes I know what you mean about the resort having so much to do with the over-all feel of the trip. We stayed at AKL this trip (rented points) and it made the entire trip feel that much more quality. It sounds like your family had a fantastic first evening! Thank you for sharing your memories!

I have a very similar pic of my younger niece on our first trip in the stroller with the map. She was 4 that trip too and loved the map. I know that she had a ball that trip, although it was a bit hard sometimes weighing as she put it, little rides, for her with the big rides her sister wanted to go on.

It sounds like it was the perfect go-with the flow night.
