I really don't know, but I swear, once I get to a particular point in the World Showcase, I feel compelled to call my girl Tink. Most likely now because of some extremely funny photos we took on our May trip that may or may not have involved the phone booths in the good ole UK.
Not wanting to spoil that trip report, however, I'll save those details for later.
Let's just say that after I heard two songs by BBVDD, my son was getting antsy and wanted to be on the move. It was getting close to dinner time, and although it was before our designated ADR time in England, I said to my DH, let's just head over there. So we took a leisurely stroll, got to Rose and Crown and checked in. They weren't quite ready for the TK clan, but let me tell you, I was so ready for them.
I was ready for the food, and just as importantly, those lovely, lovely accents. I would have to say that's one of my favorite things about eating in the World Showcase. I love all the accents. I love the melting pot of humanity, not to be confused with the sea of humanity. I love the idea that all these different people from all walks of life from all different parts of the World have come here to work perhaps for a long time, or perhaps to gain experience and go back home with a deeper appreciation of the Disney way.
I love all of that. I've been part of the Disney culture before, and so I can appreciate how hard that is to uphold.
So suffice it to say, not only was I hungry, but I was jonesin' for some good accents. And I was not dissappointed. The cutie who checked us in had the most adorable accent and I mean that in a totally non-belittling way. It was adorable! I could have listened to him talk forever.
Well. Not forever. Jack Sparrow I could listen to forever, let's be serious here. But you know what I mean.
So while we were waiting with our handy dandy pager, I got that hankering to call my girl Tink.
Now this is a double edged sword. Because I know she wants to hear from me, but I also know the second I call that she's going to wish she was there. And she did, bless her. But I was able to chat with her a bit about the World and how things were going, and it was so nice.
Before I knew it, our pager was going off, and I was cutting off our conversation to head inside Rose and Crown for a loverly meal in a nice, air conditioned space.
Or so I thought.
Because we were actually seated outside.
Now let me tell you this. Since I haven't really mentioned the weather other than to discuss Noah and his ark of the previous hours, let me just tell you it was hot. H-O-T, HOT. That rain did absolutely nothing to cool down the temperature.
I won't lie.
I didn't look my finest. All of our hair had gotten wet, even when we were covered by ponchos. And I have bangs. Bangs that were totally flat and now lifeless. And instead of getting a respite in the cool air conditionedness of the pub, we were going to sit outside.
But you know what? Even though I was feeling like a sticky mess, I figured, hey. I'm a sticky mess. Big deal. So what if I'm wearing a tie dye I made and posted all over the DIS and someone might recognize me. We all can't be beauty queens, can we?
So, I focused on the positive. When we discovered that our table actually wobbled, DH and I laughed about it. And when we discovered that we were still going to be rather warm even though we were sitting down in relative shade, we laughed about that too.
And I chose to focus on my beautiful family, and the gorgeous view.
Which I never took a picture of. Shame on me.
I blame it on hunger really. I was starving!
Here's your one food art picture from this meal! Ready???
That's my hard apple cider. It was sooooooooo good. So good. As a matter of fact, I would love one right now. I seriously debated trying to get some of this delicious libation when I got home, but I just didn't think it would be the same. I think it tastes better when you're looking at the World Showcase.
I have to tell you right now that I really enjoyed this meal, and I am so glad that we kept this reservation. Do I really like have a ressie on the first night? I'm not sure. I loved our go with the flow-ness, if that's a word, and breaking it up was kind of a bummer. But at the same time, I do enjoy sitting down to a good meal, and I'm glad that we did one just the three of us before the family got there. In that way, this night was really special.
We didn't order any apps, I was way too hungry and wanted to get to business.

I, of course, got the fish and chips. My husband got the surf and turf, and my son got the bangers and mash. Bless our waitress. First of all, she was just a delight, and second of all she warned us that the bangers and mash came with cabbage and gravy all over the sausage and mashed potatoes, and we could leave that off if we wanted to. We chose to leave it off, and DS really liked it.
I actually felt for our waitress, too. I wear contacts, but I totally remember what it's like to wear glasses, and every time she came from the interior of the pub to outside, her glasses would fog over. She even tried putting something on them, but it didn't work. And she was so sweet and good natured about it, like ah well. I think that helped contribute to our attitude as well.
I loved my fish and chips. I didn't even come close to finishing it. That entree is huge. Ridiculously huge. And I soooo wanted to save room for dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which was really nice.
And for dessert, I had some heaven in a dish.
Three words, DIS friends.
Sticky.
Toffee.
Pudding.
Oh. My. God. I loved it. That dessert was so good it should be a sin. And I'll tell you right now, I would go back to the Rose and Crown just to have that dessert. Imagine it, a nice hard cider and sticky toffee pudding. HEAVEN!!!
So there you have it. I'm so glad that we decided to eat at Rose and Crown, even if I wasn't exactly feeling my finest with the level of shall we say, stickiness we were exhibiting.
In that sense, I guess we really were true to our inherent nature.
Pirates.
