NOT AGAIN - Tropical Storm Franklin looks like Jeanne

NOAA has just issued an advisory that they have changed the name of Tropical Depressions Six to Tropical Storm Franklin. The five day forecast looks yuckily like Jeanne. Guess the Wonder is going to have an interesting time for the next week or so.

Edited to add: the map is current with the NOAA site so it has changed since I first posted when it looked like Franklin was going to do a loop and head for PC.

We shall see. Does look a little like Jeanne. Some models bring it up north and out into the atlantic were others bring it over central florida as a category 1 hurricane.

...Sixth tropical storm of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forms...

A Tropical storm warning is in effect for the northwestern bahamas for eleuthera... new providence... the Berry Islands... The Abacos (that's Castaway Cay)... and Grand Bahama Island.

A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area within the next 24 hours.

At 8 pm EDT 0000z... The center of Tropical Storm FRANKLIN was located near latitude 25.8 north... Longitude 76.0 west or about 50 miles... 80 km... East-northeast of the island of Eleuthera in the
Northwestern Bahamas.

FRANKLIN is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph ...22 km/hr...and this motion...with a gradual decrease in forward speed...is expected for the next 24 hours.

Data from an air force reconnaissance plane indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased and are near 45 mph... 75 Km/hr...with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during The next 24 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 30 miles ... 45 km from the center.

Estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 MB...29.80 INCHES.

FRANKLIN could produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches over the Northwestern Bahamas.

I was thinking about that today. This storm looks like it will affect the next two cruises on The Wonder. I have no idea how they figure that it will circle around & rehit the same area but it doesn't look good. The captain will divert the ship to calmer waters but CC may be hard to make.

Just back from a week in WDW (we had fun at the House of Mouse) and I am looking to catch up on the threads.

We normally cruise in July/August, but are going on the Turkey Day cruise this year.

I agree that it appears it will be an interesting hurricane season.

The 5 pm advisory had Franklin doing a loop like Jeanne did but I just noticed that the 11 pm advisory has Franklin moving up and then going more east. Maybe the winds aloft have changed a little.

Looks like he is headed farther away from Nassau and Castaway...This is good news for the current Wonder sailing.

Looks like the storm is right over great abacos as of the last news this am.Wonder if the ship went to Nassau or Key West as it did last year? Wish someone would post.

Current conditions in Nassau are good so I don't see any reason they didn't go and Franklin's current path looks better and better.

OMG! You all had me totally freaked out! I woke up this morning and read this post from the beginning with a sinking feeling til the end We're on the Wonder Sunday and we don't want to miss parasailing!!! Hopefully on the current path the winds won't extend to Castaway!

The next 20-30 years will be like this they claim. Said it goes in cycles and the past 20-30 years was cooler water and less hurricanes. The next 20-30 is hotter water and more hurricanes.

Contrariwise I second that! My family and I are also sailing on the 7/24/05 cruise. We were listening to the weather reports this morning and then after reading the first couple of posts on this thread...we were getting a little nervous. By the end, we were glad to hear that it was moving away from Bahamas. We are looking forward to experiencing Castaway Cay and would be very disappointed if we were forced bypass it.

Keep your eye on the reports. As you can see from the tracking last night & this morning, things are always changing. I hope that you can make it to CC too & that this storm hasn't affected the island very much. It was right over it early today.

Deffinitely watch this one. From reading Tropical dicussions from the NHC, I know the NHC is very confused right now. Several models show it going out to sea when several others have it turning back and going across south central florida. There is a ridge moving in and he doesnt get pulled into the ridge or misses it time wise then he will turn around. Since Franklin is small it wont take much for him actually to miss the ridge all together. Just wanted to let you guys know.
