Not Adding On Despite a Great Trip

Even though we just got back from a fabulous trip to BRV during the Christmas season, we have decided to hold off on adding on points there. The increased dues and the reallocation of points definitely have an impact on our decision as well as the uncertainty of our adult kids' schedules for future family vacations. We plan on taking one more family trip to WDW for Thanksgiving 2019 and then maybe one more trip to HHI summer 2021 before maybe taking a break. There's just so much uncertainty about where they are going to end up and what they are going to be doing. Grandkids seem FAR off in the future for us. So the plan is to use our existing points for just the two of us (Aulani in 2020!) with trips to WDW and HHI yearly for a while. Maybe some weekend trips to the Smoky Mountains with the kids since those can be booked more last-minute. Then once grandkids arrive, we will look at maybe adding on. By then maybe we will be over the frustration DVC has caused recently.

I know that the Dues increases and the Point reallocations don't look great right now. Because they are much higher than they have been in the past. AND, I suspect that next year will be similar, for both of them. Look for perhaps a 7 percent increase, on average, in both areas. But, after that, I expect it to settle down and continue with only minimal changes for a few years. Disney doesn't want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Maybe poke it a little, but not kill it.

From what I read it sounds more like uncertainty in your family that is the real reason for not buying more points. That uncertainty would also hold me back.

Dues will always increase, this year change is mainly because of the new labor agreement.

IMO it’s never optimal when point charts change for the worse but unless anyone challenges Disney we never know if it’s okay or not with the change for 2020.

That is depressing.

That is a big part of it, but honestly, the recent changes have left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. We could still put the family trips on hold and use the extra points for just the two of us. We really want to stay at BRV in early December for 7-10 nights. With our small AKV contract, that won't be happening. But we are going to make do with what we have and see what happens.

By the way, I'm just noticing I posted this in the wrong forum. Mods, would you move this to the Purchasing DVC forum? Thanks!

Compared to CRO the cost of our points plus AD's are still significantly lower. CRO's will continue to rise along with AD's. So it's not the 'deal' that it use to be - well a correction will eventually come but with retirement in the imminent future we could not afford CRO's so we're happy with our present situation.
