not a good wknd to begin picketing

Hosp where DH works began picketing today. DH was going to go from 12-2 but decided to go 7-9am instead. Dont know if he'll make it tomorrow. All next wk they'll be there after work too. We'll know at the union meeting 12/14 if they are going on strike.

It's never good for anyone involved no matter the time of the year (and I mean for the picketers/strikers, non-union employees and management). I hope that this all ends soon.

What are they picketing FOR? I mean, what do they want put in their contract that they don't already have? Just curious, I don't mean this in a bad way or anything...I would just like to understand WHAT it is the workers want.

My Dad worked many years for General Motors and they had several contract "negotiations" during those times, and I know of at least once they went on strike. I was a pre-teen and even at that young age I didn't agree with the strike. We even got food stamps and I thought that was ridiculous since the workers CHOSE to go on strike. I didn't feel we deserved that additional help. I still don't.

Oh.. I am sure they are picketing for somthing important.. I am A RN who is also belong to the
New York State Nurses Association... We are a union for RNs only. We had to strike once to maintain a proper RN/patient ratio. Management wanted to cut one third of our RN s and replace us with staff who have only 12 weeks training who would be doing tasks that under the New York Nurse Practice Act that would be bordering on being illegal. oh. yeah we also asked for a 3 percent wage hike too, during the worse nursing shortage in 30 years. It is funny how people attack unions.
