So DH was out on a medical leave for several weeks. He went back to work last Monday and today I heard the door at 10am and DH was home :confused3 I said "what are you doing home?" and he said that he had been let go. I asked why and he said that it was due to cost cutting and there were other employees that were being let go as well. He thinks it is in retaliation for him being out for so many weeks but how can he really prove that. Anyways, I'm not working because I'm home with our daughter, so now we have no income (well, I think he will get unemployment), he only gets insurance for the rest of this month, and now I'm extremely stressed and in tears. He has been on the computer since he got home typing to friends for connections and looking for jobs. I've contacted some friends as well looking for any help we can get seeing if their jobs are hiring. Anyone reading this in Rochester and needing IT help  ok, sorry, just trying to lighten the mood. I can't believe this is happening right now. I'm feeling a little lost. :sad1:

I'm so sorry. He should go to the unemployment office right away as that will take weeks to get going. Welfare is another option if at least just for food stamps, every bit helps right?

I hope something will come along for him real soon, hang in there.

Sorry to hear this happened to your family. Do you have a Human Rights place that you could contact to file a complaint? I was let go when I had to take time off due to medical issues. I filed a complaint and recieved compensation after the investigation was done.

:grouphug: I'm sorry. What a tough situation! How long was he back from his FMLA before he was terminated? Just that day? It certainly seems to me that his leave could be one of their motivations for selecting him. But as you said, with there being others who were let go as well, it would be very difficult to prove.
As I said before, I'm sorry you're going through this. Hopefully he can at least get unemployment until he can get another job. :grouphug:

That's awful. I'm sorry. I hope your DH finds work soon.

Has he looked at RIT for a job? My husband works at a college here and has collegues there. I think they are not having financial problems, so perhaps they have job openings. Hope things get better for you.

I am sorry to hear this

I agree he should get the unemployment comp started. Does he know for sure that others were also let go?
he may want to pursue the investigation because of the medical leave
good luck:grouphug:

 Same thing happened to me 10 years ago. I went out on a 6-week FMLA due to having major surgery. I went in for a short visit the week before I was due to return and was told not to bother, and clear out my desk. They let 2 other people go as well; I've always suspected that it was so they could claim layoff and not that they preferred the girl that they hired to do my job in my absence (they did keep her, in my position).

I'm sorry this happened to you

She said:

So I am guessing he has been back at work for a week before today.

He can most likely get unemployment. It would be VERY hard to prove that his personal termination was due to him being out. If others were let go at the same time, they can simply say he was already on the list. The timing was horrible true, but multiple people were also let go.

He was back at work for a week (last Monday was his first day back) and then this morning he was let go. Perhaps they waited so that he would have a full month of insurance? I'm not sure. But thank goodness for that. If it was just me and him that would be one thing, but now with DD that is a whole other story. He went on the unemployment site today and it asked how many days he worked this week (or something like that) and since he worked part of the day today he has to wait to file for unemployment until next week.

Thank you to all of you for your support and well wishes. He's hard at work sending out resumes!

Also check into WIC for you and the baby. If you are breastfeeding, you would get coverage as well.

oh man, that's almost exactly what happened to me. I had a tendonitis injury (my position was all data entry so typing for 8 hours a day) and did PT for 6 weeks or so, about 2 weeks after I was cleared for full duty I was let go. They gave me some song and dance but man I was not happy. Unfortunately I can't prove they let me go due to injury so I have no recourse, my unemployment claim went thru without issue and I've been looking for work since June with little luck. Good luck to you both, I hope everything works out for you.

Start looking into WIC, food stamps, heating assistance, etc. These are what these programs are for.

You will be on your feet in no time:hug:

Tell him to stop with the resumes until he can sit down with a clear head and write a good one!!!!

He doesn't want to get ruled out of any openings cause he sent a haphazard resume and unless he spent his medical leave getting his in order I highly doubt it is ready to be sent out.

Resumes are almost all scanned electronically now and the computer throws out ones it doesn't see the exact words the company is looking for. He needs to do some research into what he want to do and how to go about doing the job search. He should search and see if there are any networking groups meeting that he can go to and get help with the resume and the job search. He also needs to start networking.

Don't know what you did before the baby but you may want to also work on your resume depending on what you did before the baby it may be time to switch roles if you are more employable.

I'm sorry it is hard, my DH just got back to work the end of August after being out over 2 years.

Please look into M&T Bank for IT jobs. Not sure what part of Roch you are in and if any main M&T buildings are close-by.

Lots of Luck for your family!

I'm already on WIC which helps a lot. I will start looking into other programs, plus Family Health Plus for insurance

He sent it to my mom because she is proofreader extraordinaire  she looked it over, helped him with a couple errors, spruced it up and she even gave it to someone at her office who knows someone in the IT field. so fingers crossed.

Paychex seems to always be hiring.

I worked at Paychex! I have a friend that still works there and has been there for quite some time. I emailed him today to find out if his dept. is hiring.

DH has an interview tomorrow for an IT job! yay! Hopefully it will be something good. In the meantime I have a couple friends working on some things, plus some people at my mom's work and DH's brother too. It's nice that everyone kind of comes together to help out. :goodvibes

I'm so sorry!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that he finds something great really soon.

I'm sorry and want to give you a hug as I've been there, so feel your pain . Know that you're not alone and as others have suggested there is help for the many in this situation. Our area has been hit hard by the economy, incl my DB who recently got laid off after 39 yrs at same job. Good luck your DH finds something soon and sending lots of prayers your way.
