I am not a DVC owner but should be as this will be our 10th trip to WDW. We love to go once a year. As I am a travel agent we are getting to stay at SSR in a 1br villa. Having near had a client or myself stay there I am a little concerned after reading lots of info here in the DIS about SSR. We will be staying there June 17-24 and a little worried about the bus service and eating situation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated about what building I should request before check in and at check in. We will not have a car and will rely heavily on Disney transportation. Any help and suggestions for this trip would be great.

Thanks

Request Grandstand, Springs, or Congress Park. You will love it. One nice thing about Grandstand if you are concerned about transportation is that it is the first stop to get on and off at SSR, so you shouldn't have an issue.

Have fun!

We aren't DVC owners, but love staying at SSR 1 bedroom. So relaxing. We've stayed in different building, different times of the year, and never had much of a problem with transporation. Also hitched a ride in a cart when we were returning from the boat launch - we looked confused about directions, and a wonderful employee gave us a ride. Love SSR. :cheer2:

While I agree you'll see a fair amount of negative posts about SSR, most of them aren't really negative towards SSR they're just not what the poster prefers (if that makes sense  ) Example: some people do not like the condo style, some don't like being not attached to a park.

I've seen reports of awful bus service, but have never experienced it at SSR myself. We've had really good service there, and very long waits at BWV.

Food: We love Artist Palette! So nice to have something other than a burger/hot dog or chicken strips! I recently saw someone post that they could "only eat flatbread so many times", well other quick service have the same amount of choices and I can only eat so many burgers (especially since they're everywhere) Anyways... The flatbreads are very good, sandwiches are excellent and the fruit & cheese plate is great for a light meal on a hot day. Breakfast is very good as well.
Turf Club is one of our favorite restaurants. We've had very very good meals there for lunch & dinner. Great food & great service :goodvibes

Just stayed there iin April. had no problem with busses, and it was a busy time with lots of people...Spring vacation weeks etc.

Food seemed fine. It was tasty, and they seem top have rerouted the fast food part of the restaurant area so that everyone is crossing over each other and getting in the way.

SSR is a beautiful resort. Once you see it for yourself you will know what I mean.

The bus problem is not unique to SSR. We have waited for what seems like forever for a bus at other resorts.

Springs is closest to the AP, main pool, etc. and extremely popular. Also last stop on the bus run. Put the two together and you get a bus arriving unable accomodate everyone at the bus stop.

It's the SSR lovers and/or owners thread.

We have stayed several times in Congress Park and loved it. The walk to the main building for food is very short and you are very close to Downtown Disney with many eating options. The line situation at Artists Pallet has been fixed with just adding a rope barrier to direct people in line. We didn't experience any issues with getting in peoples way. I wish the gift shop area was bigger but this probably keeps me from spending more money. I love our second home resort; I find it hard to stay at the other DVC areas on property. We didn't experience any bus issues at all when we were there 4/19 - 4/26.

What section - I would recommend staying at Congress Park. It's a 5 minute walk from DTD and from the main pool and food area at SSR. From SSR, you can catch a bus to any park and from DTD, you can catch a bus to any other hotel. When you don't have a car, that's extremely handy! Congress Park's quiet pool is amazing, at it sits right across from DTD. The view is incredible!

Food - I agree with the OP's comments about Turf Club. Love it. We also really enjoy Earl of Sandwich in DTD. We ate at AP a few times when there and it's good and right by the main pool.

Busses - Not disputing anyone's claim, but we've never had a problem with the busses. Our longest wait while we were at SSR during Spring Break was 15 minutes.

DVC - While you're at SSR, DVC's sales office is right there! Check it out. We ended up buying resale because we got a better deal, but they will sometimes run GREAT incentives. Also, if you're going regularly like we are, it really can save you $$$.

Wishing you safe travels and a fun stay at our home resort! We love it, and I'm sure you will, too!

I have stayed at SSR more than a dozen times and have no complaints

I have found the bus service very good. I also enjoy walking and/or taking the boat to DTD where there are tons of great food options.
In addition, I also like Artist's Palette. I think with the close proximity to DTD and the on-site options, SSR actually has the best location for dining options.

We are BWV owners and stayed at SSR for the first time over Easter. While we we thought the bus transportation left a lot to be desired, we still enjoyed the resort. We did not eat at Artist Palette, but did have an excellent meal at the Turf Club. We had a few mishaps along the way, but all CMs were pleasant and helpful. We are heading back to SSR for a 4 day non-park trip in August. I'm looking forward to another meal at the Turf Club, and simply relaxing and enjoying the resort!

Yes, we have had bad bus service at SSR, but it was not unique to SSR. There was bad bus service everywhere at WDW that day. Evidently there were more people using the system than projected. We were resort hopping and spent a good portion of the day waiting at each resort. It would have been quicker to drive ourselves. I wouldn't get too upset if you do run into slow bus service, you won't be alone and it won't be at just SSR.

I would request either the Grandstand section or Congress Park.
