Okay - so I have been working in the same bank for 15 years, 10 years in this dept. My husband, Mom and MIL all work here too, so we pretty much know everybody. Not a person here I don't say hi to, chit chat with, etc.

Unrelated but needed background - I work part time - 8-12 M-F. My SIL watches my girls for me in the mornings. She has another job as a substitute teacher and typically is needed 1 afternoon per week during the school year. Those days, she needs to be at work by 12:30, so she drops the girls off to me at work around 12:15 or so on those days, and then I head home.

There is a new woman across the hall in another dept - she's been here since Thanksgiving time - so about 8 months. Apparently, she doesn't like me and has been telling people how unfriendly I am and that my children shouldn't be getting dropped off here as this is a place of business.

Huh?

I'm blown away by her comments. First of all, I'm very friendly. I really don't know her, but say hi when I pass her in the hallway. We don't work together, and our departments don't interact, so I really don't have conversations with her. Secondly, when my children are dropped off to me I am off the clock. I finish working at 12:00 and they are dropped off 15 minutes later, at which point, I grab my stuff and leave. Sometimes we see co-workers in the hall who haven't seen my girls in a while, so we chat for a minute (look how big they are now, etc.), but it's not like I'm working with my kids sitting in my office or something.

Vent, vent, vent - typing here rather than sending her a snippy email to mind her own business, which is really what I would like to do.

She really wouldn't like me. There are times my kids have to come in to my place of employment. DH and I work opposite shifts and if work comes at the last minute, then they come in until my work is completed. Of course, I am not the only one that this happens with.

I work in a bank as well and as a manager I've always told my staff I'd rather they bring their kinds to work than call in sick. I've never had a problem with this. As a matter of fact the kids help break up the day and the parent works better knowing where the kids are.

If it doesn't concern her, and you are sure that your boss or bosses don't have a problem with it, then I'd ignore her comments, continue to be civil, and call it a day.
