My son is almost 8 months and has had a cough/cold this weekend. I was planning on calling the Drs this morning to get him in there today because I think he may have an ear infection. When I went to check on him early this morning because I heard him coughing, we found some blood on the crib sheet. DH and I were looking all over to see where it had come from and it looks as if it was coming out of his nose but had already stopped.

I'm calling the Drs office as soon as it opens at 9am- he seems to be in good spirits except for the coughing but I have never heard of babies that young with nosebleeds. The humidity in the house is fine so it isn't that the air is dry. As you can probably tell, he is our first and I am worried.

Anyone else ever had this happen?

I don't really have an answer as I am no expert, but it doesn't sound too bad because the bleeding has already stopped and baby seems happy enough. (My Dr. always told me that with babies he is always concerned with their behavior when they are sick as opposed to the thermomoter number.) Maybe your baby scratched the inside of his nose with a little fingernail. Or maybe he sneezed and has an irritated nose enough from his cold that a little blood came out in the sneeze. Anyhow, you are right to take him into see the Ped. (I always play it safe too.) You most likely will find out everything is fine. Good Luck.

Don't worry too much, Mom! A cold can dry out the membranes and bring on a bleed. If it was a small amount and had already stopped it seems fine. I agree with calling the doctor, but there really isn't much concern.

My 7 year old had his first nose bleed 2 weeks ago. I called the Dr to see if nasal spray (saline) would help keep it moist and they told me to put a little petroleum jelly on a q-tip and gently spread it up the nose. DS giggles when I do it because he said it tickles.

So far so good! :thumbsup2 I hope your baby feels better soon!

Are you sure it is from his nose? I am asking because you mentioned ear infection. His ear drum could of burst, and the blood could of been from his ear.

This happend to our 4 month old ds while on vacation. I called the Dr. and he said not to worry unless the blood was dripping or running from his nose. It wasn't and he was fine, I was the one that was worried. However, call just to make sure and to put yourself at ease and to see what your Dr thinks.

Thanks! We are going to the pedi around 11- he seems ok, but with the ear pulling I def want to make sure he is ok. Scary morning for me!

Thank you for the advice :sunny:
