Nory Report III: In the Third Person! After 3 Years, the Final Update! NEW 2/6

Makes you wonder, if Soarin' was the thing they wanted to do most, why wasn't the mother getting fastpasses? :confused3

I like the pin.

I bet they didn't know about Fast Passes either.

Sounds like you started off a nice morning in Future World! (: Nice to see your headache is going away and you managed to grab an FP for Soarin' almost into the afternoon :thumbsup2 Hopefully you gave that lady the right information about Future World being open, but I don't think I've ever seen FW close that early :confused3

Oh I love the pin you got! So nice. I like how it has the EPCOT ball acting as a cover for the chocolate cake. And lucky you for getting a reservation at Le Cellier. I've heard it's tough to fit in a reservation there :teeth: And that cheddar cheese soup looks very nice and what a nice time to eat it when looking over the World Showcase Lagoon :goodvibes

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum
It was a very nice morning! (Of course, a morning in Epcot is pretty much always nice, isn't it?)

I love when you try to help someone but the people you are trying to help don't believe you.

I got the Figment F&W pin. The cheese soup from Canada, :thumbsup2 great choice.
I'd heard so much about the soup, but never tried it myself before. Yum!

Nory should have butted-in with that info. too. Hee hee hee. ;)
Really, I should've known better than to butt in at all! :rotfl:

cute pin.

I can't wait to do F&W so I can get one of those cool wrist bands!!

Beautiful pictures.

Yummy looking soup!

Great update. I can't wait to get to WDW...I'm so close! One more work week. :cool1: I'm excited to stay at CSR for the 1st time too! I'll have to find that hammock. :lovestruc

Ahhhhhhh....the cheese soup. My favorite. I'm glad the food helped with Nory's headache.

I thought that was very nice of Nory to let that mother know that Soarin' stayed open later. :thumbsup2

Leave it to Canadian food to ease the headache ;) Just kidding.
Glad your headache eased off though. And it was very nice of you to tell that woman about Soarin, I wonder if she ever heeded your advice...
I'm off to research these pre-paid gift cards. I'll be at the F&WF for the first time this year so I don't really know what to do! lol..
Great update!

The wristband gift card is simply genius of Disney for F&WF.

I hope Soarin' wasn't closing at 7 PM!

Your cheddar cheese soup is simply your appetizer! :thumbsup2

I loved having mine but it was a bit of a sobriety test getting it on and off to swipe. :lmao: also the money went faster too ! :rotfl2: I am assuming they will have a new design for this year?

Funny thing about the wrist band...and this is something that really should be later in this TR, but isn't, because I forgot to put it in my notes and then couldn't remember at all when it happened -- the card part fell off and disappeared! Luckily, I still had my receipt, so they could just issue me a new one at Guest Services. It was a bit of a pain, though.

The hammock is wonderful -- I highly recommend it!

Food pretty much always helps with a headache, doesn't it? And with most other things, too, in my opinion! :rotfl:

I actually think F&W can be a little overwhelming -- so many choices! So many people!

Exactly what I was thinking with the soup.

I loved having mine but it was a bit of a sobriety test getting it on and off to swipe. :lmao: also the money went faster too ! :rotfl2: I am assuming they will have a new design for this year?
Yeah, they make those wristbands awfully tight, don't they?

I feel like I have to make a blanket apology here to all of you whose TRs I'm following...I've been so ridiculously behind for so long! I'm hoping to get at least a start on catching up this weekend. And next week I'm off to visit my parents for a few days, so that should mean a bit of down time for a change.

I need them to develop a Disboards app for the ipad! I just can't bring myself to look at my computer in the evenings lately...if I do, I inevitably end up doing work!

With an hour to kill before lunch, Nory knew exactly what she wanted to do next. Something that would take her back to the old days, when Epcot was shiny and new, when the World of Motion and Horizons still existed. Something that would make her want to don the legwarmers and baggy T-shirts of her youth, and take a curling iron and a bottle of hairspray to her bangs.

That’s right: Captain Eo.

The 3-D movie had been gone for years. But after Michael Jackson—who starred as (hilarious thought!) a spaceship fighter pilot captain—died the year before, they revived it, and Nory couldn’t wait to see how it held up to her memories. She’d never been a fan of the movie that had replaced it, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, anyway.

She trekked from Canada to the Imagination pavilion, her anticipation growing with every step.

Soon, she was walking past the Michael Jackson posters, scooping up her 3-D glasses, and watching the pre-show: a making-of documentary straight from 1986.

The serious flashbacks started as soon as she saw one of the dancers, in rehearsal, wearing a Cats sweatshirt. And the jazz hands! And the gigantic eyeglasses!

Nory was delighted.

The pre-show was practically enough entertainment for her. But it was only a few minutes before they were ushered into the theater. Nory allowed a bunch of people to go in front of her, so she ended up reasonably near the center, toward the back.

And soon the dated weirdness of Captain Eo began.

Even in his prime, before his reputation was sullied by scandal and odd cosmetic choices, Michael Jackson was a truly bizarre choice for a fighter pilot, with his little-girl voice and those eyes that always looked on the verge of tears (sexy tears, Nory had thought when she was seven, as she swooned over the Thriller album on the swing set). She had to smile when the strange, chubby rodent-creature with butterfly wings flew out at her in clumsy 3D—he had been one of her favorite Epcot characters as a child, and she’d forgotten all about him.

My, 3D sure has come a long way since then! she thought, unavoidably comparing it to the wonders of the recent Step Up 3D, the dance movie that she and her husband had both loved.

Michael and his crew crashed on a planet that looked like a huge garbage dump and were taken hostage by robot-aliens. Just as they were condemned to death by a truly frightening, metal-clad lady suspended, spider-like, from the ceiling (Nory couldn’t stop thinking of the ‘90s movie The Cell), something awesome happened: The main characters turned into instruments! The flight crew turned into a rock band! It was 3D’s first-ever dance battle!

Oh. My. God, Nory thought, laughing aloud. I am IN a cheesy eighties music video! This is the coolest thing ever!

She laughed with glee through Michael’s inevitable victory, and put yet another item on her mental list of Disney-things her husband would love. It was so ridiculous, anyone over thirty couldn’t help but get a kick out of it.

After the movie, Nory left the bright colors of the Imagination pavilion and retraced her steps back to Canada, the World Showcase land of totem poles and expensive sweaters.

 This is much better. I must say I was immensely disappointed when your first "Epcot Cheese" post actually had to to with Cheese. This was much more what I was envisioning!

You can't help but love Captain EO in it's totally cheese-o-riffic glory. Now if only they could bring back Food Rocks, I'd be a happy child of the 80's. (If you don't remember it, or actually even if you do, watch it on YouTube if you need to laugh. I'd gladly trade Soarin' to see it live again!)

Awwww old Epcot!!! I'm very happily listening to Food Rocks (thanks Joanna!) typing this :rotfl:. I definitely thought that EO was a fantastic throwback, and basked in the wonderfulness of it all when there.

The thing I remember most about the Wonders of Life pavillion are those exercise bikes they had there! I don't even remember what they measured, but I was pretty competitive about it! Oh, and Cranium Command!!!! :yay:

I have yet to watch Captain EO, but I promise to see it in December. I am definitely over 30, so what's not to love?

Fun update!

my fear exactly!!!

Yeah, they make those wristbands awfully tight, don't they?

Another fear - flinging it at the CM trying to swipe it. That coil has some spring to it. :lmao:
I really needed a retractable badge holder thingie like my work keys are on ( Say geek with me ) This way it never really leaves me and I don't lose it- sober or not. ooooohhhh I may onto something here for this year.

So glad Nory was able to go see Captain EO as she chose to do. My DH went to see it while I checked email for the office, etc.

Nory took wonderful pictures of Canada in World Showcase.

Ah yes, I saw Captain EO back in the day. Nostalgic moment over.

Who was in that picture with Michael? Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas?

Captain Eo! I'm oddly excited to see that for the first time :rotfl2: I was only 4 when the 80's ended but I have a strange attraction to the era nonetheless.
Love the pictures of the Canada pavilion
