Norway College Program kids alerted to pavilion closing?

They usually announce closures fairly far out...so I still don't believe the rumor yet...but they have surprised me before...

FP+ has not be available for Maelstrom since those booking in mid/late September. It was also not available for my October dates (15-23) which I just did a few nights ago. That is where the rumor of it closing is coming from.

I hated Maelstrom the only time I rode it. Thought it was disjointed and boring. (Although marginally better than the Mexico ride, which was fairly racist with its videos of Mexican peddlers beseeching you to buy their wares - haven't been on that one again, either, though it's been updated with Donald Duck and I presume lost the ruder parts of the ride.)

For those whose knickers are in a kink over Frozen somehow besmirching Norway, what is Donald Duck's connection to Mexico? A grade B Disney movie many have never seen. No one seemed to be too worried when the original Mexico ride had Donald inserted into it.

I would be (vaguely) interested in a Frozen re-do of Maelstrom, and we like the princess breakfast at Norway's restaurant the best of the ones we've been to. Adding A & E will just make it that much more fun, I assume.

I still can't believe that, at only six weeks out from FP going down for Maelstrom, there is still no word of why.

We arrive on the last day of FP and added another park day so we can ride one last time...FP booked for 9-10pm 9/27. I'll be sad to see this one go down.

Um, tons of people were.

At least the Three Caballeros (The movie) is about Mexico and it's culture (sorta) but Frozen is about a made up land that is loosely based on Norway. I am fine with a Frozen ride at the other parks but in World Showcase NO.

Keep Maelstrom the ride but do change the movie.:thumbsup2

and they got over it.

Very true. There's a difference though between inserting the 3 Caballeros into the Gran Fiesta Tour and turning the Norway pavilion into Frozenland. I happen to like Maelstrom, always have, and will be sad to see it go and/or change.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I just can't see getting so upset over something that hasn't even been proven as fact yet. I know it's frustrating to not know WHY something is closing, but I can't be mad until I see with my own eyes that it's changing for the worst. (Not that I think it would be bad per se, but I like the Norway pavilion the way it is)

That's our arrival day, too. I booked 7:50-8:50, and hope to get in a second ride before we leave. It will make me sad to see it leave or change as well.

PS - look for me. I'll be on a PINK ECV. Hard to miss. I also won't have had any sleep since we're driving straight through from TN. Just look for the zombie. :crazy2:

Probably for the same reason there were tons of people on these boards that were up in arms about Starbucks coming to the Main Street Bakery and how it it was going to commercialize Main Street USA. That was one of the funniest things I had ever read.

and they got over it.

Very good reasoning.... :rolleyes2

With anything if enough time passes people will get over it. It doesn't mean it was the correct move to begin with. I wasn't around for the change to Mexico but in the end I would care more about the Norway pavilion as its not something a majority of kids will likely ever see and I happen to have heritage from there as well. I also think the world showcase should be updated but should stay agnostic from "Disney" and keep the routes of a more "realistic" viewpoint of the countries.

In the end I think if Norway does become a frozen area I really think Disney needs to move up or make plans for all other areas as well.

Canada (now northern America) - Brother Bear
China - Mulan
France - Beauty and the Beat / Ratatouille / Cinderella / Sleeping Beauty
Germany - Snow White /
Italy - Pinocchio
Japan (Now Oceania) - Nemo / Rescuers Down Under
Mexico (now South America) - Emperors New Groove / UP
Morocco (now Africa) - Lion King / Tarzan
Norway - Frozen
United Kingdom - Robin Hood / Alice in Wonderland / Peter Pan / 101 Dalmatians
United States - Toy Story / Incredibles / Cars / Stitch / Dumbo / Pocahontas

Could even add:
Greece with all the tasty Greek food with Hercules
